Oh please, in Jewish homes Tuesday is cause to celebrate by eating. Actually, never have I felt more pampered, more welcome and, certainly, more well fed than in the homes of Jewish and Italian friends. When I was a kid, we had family friends whose Italian Catholic son married a Jewish woman. The fallout on both sides was horrific (this was the 50's, folks), but mostly I remember the food. For this WASP, mealtimes in both households were memorable occasions.

Just a reminder - due to differences in our respective calendars, the Eastern Orthodox have just begun their Lent. Orthodox Easter falls on May 1 this year. So keep those cookbooks handy: in a month we get to celebrate Easter all over again with our Orthodox friends!

Ha, you're a hoot, Yama. I'm watching a TV special on Pope JohnPaul, and at this moment they're profiling Maestro Levin, a Jewish guy from Brooklyn, who leads the Vatican Orchestra. Mercy sakes, what's the world coming to?

Thanks for the links Buddy. Nothing better than being taught stuff.

A Texan is always welcome. A fallen Presbyterian Norwegian Texan named Buddy gets the seat of honor.

Charlie,

Now those are combinations we have not had the pleasure of entertaining. Makes our little party seem a bit lacking on reflection. The next time you, your mom, and your Episcopalian friends happen to be in Kyoto during Easter you must stop by.

Buddy, if it makes you feel any better, Charlie the Buddhist Choctaw just had fried chicken with his mother the Choctaw Jew (she converted when I was about 27) at an Easter dinner with her Episcopalian friends.....

Buddy,

We celebrated yesterday. Today being Monday. My team over here runs the quadruple threat (Shinto, Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity (order not meant to imply anything) offense. Some joined us after church, my girlfriend included, my Buddhist priest friends came early having to go to bed early. Sadly not one of them was thoughtful enough to bring a big stick to awaken the guests who started to drowse off on full stomachs. Other faiths were also represented though this year Islam was not in the house. Our friend who came last year has gone back to Egypt. There is nothing that can't be had in this little corner of Kyoto, and we did a pretty good job of eating the world over two or three times.

To all a Happy Easter!
