I wanted to correct the assertions of "Fausta," above. Prof. Bernard Lewis was taken to court for saying there was no historical basis for a genocide, by forces who desire anything but the truthful reality; the idea is to intimidate, and to stifle academic debate. The fact of the matter is, the Armenians rebelled. Their treacherous community was moved away from the danger zones, like we did with our Japanese in WWII (for less justifiable reasons, as our Japanese was loyal.) People got killed in the chaos and desperation of war. The only deliberate attempt at ethnic cleansing was on the part of the Armenians; the world doesn't know or care about this end of the coin, because the victims are not considered as worthy.

Lewis beat three of the four counts of the charges brought against him, but because France's politicians "recognized" this myth (for reasons having nothing to do with history; half a million Armenians live in France, and they are a powerful, vocal community), the judge must have felt compelled to follow the law, and thus found Lewis guilty of one of these charges. Lewis' symbolic punishment? One franc. (Twenty five cents.)

Lewis must have been most gracious to lunch with Alice Tashjian, and having read some of her book, I'm sure she was very rude to the eminent historian, making it difficult for anyone to sleep well that night. Tashjian went out of her way to make the Turks out to be monsters, the truth be damned. ("Those Turks had no conscience.")

One example of her lack of morals relates the telling of the missionary, Mary Graffam. The Turks treated her most kindly, as may be seen from "Miss Graham's Own Story," 1919. They actually allowed her to be part of a resettling caravan, which would be inconceivable, if the government was set on an extermination policy. (To allow a hostile foreign witness to take part? Deceitful, bigoted missionaries form the bulk of the hearsay regarding the Armenian Genocide myth.) She died from cancer, after an operation performed by an Armenian surgeon. Alice Tashjian relates Graffam's death (from the "missionaries" chapter) in the following manner: "(The Turks) stripped her and beat her over and over. Soon afterwards, she died."

This is the kind of unconscionable and hateful example of fairy tale "evidence" that is used to "prove" the Armenian genocide myth.

Just playing devil's advocate.

They (the thugs) probably conclude that they've done the handicapped victim a favor by sending him to Paradise. He'd never have gotten this martyr's death on his own, you see.

I fail to see how those who cannot choose a martyr's death, either because like the downs syndrome victim they are unwitting or coerced can be regarded as martrys.

There can be no claim to a warrior self sacrifice, it is simply the murder of the innocents, whilst offering up one life for the Jihad may earn a place in Paradise how can offering up someone elses life do the same?

Katherine,

I'm quite open minded about it,perhaps we could send them off on a "fact finding" junket somewhere, then quarantine the area.

Won't be the first PU professor in the middle of a genocide controversy. <a href="http://www.hr-action.org/armenia/LeMonde.htm" rel="nofollow">Bernard Lewis</a> was condemned in Paris, in first Civil Chamber, for declaring <i>on the 13th of november 1993, to the daily "Le Monde" that the qualification of Genocide, given to the massacres perpetrated by the Turks in 1915, was nothing more than "the Armenian version of this story".</i>

Subsequently, my friend Alice Tashjian, whose mother survived the extermination of her entire village by the Turks, had lunch with Mr. Lewis. She assured me that after their discussion he wasn't going to be able to sleep well that evening.

(if you'd like to read it, here's <a href="http://www.mothermillennia.org/tashjian/Index.html" rel="nofollow">Alice</a>'s book.

"This can only mean one thing - they're running out of willing recruits. "

Excellent point Caroline. I was thinking the same thing. Kidnapping the mentally handicapped and using them as suicide bombers certainly would suggest that the ahem "insurgents" are having difficulty recruiting.

PeterUK,

Öthough I don't think beheading would make much differenceîÖ

Yeah, but kidnapping might, if conducted on a massive enough scale. Come to think about it, jail would work as well.

Note that the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade in Nablus tried the same thing a few months ago. (The IDF caught the kid and disarmed the bomb without hurting him.) Apparently they'd told him that he was too ugly to get a woman in this life so suicide bombing was his only chance to get laid.

You know someone is pushing the limits when even Hamas and Islamic Jihad publically declare their methods objectionable.

I cried when I read Omar's post. Imagine the anguish of the parents of people who are mentally handicapped. I can't even imagine the heartbreak of the family of the kid that was killed.
