As I've said all along, he was a very odd choice for an uber-bureaucratic Beltway position with no real authority, and the fact that this idea was Giuliani's hobbyhorse suspects some kind of larger scheming on the latter's part. Perhaps a wish that Bush/Rove would anoint him as the right wing's preferred successor to Bush, thereby giving Rudy enough ammo to shoot down McCain early on. But Rudy's got some 'splainin to do now. The Lakers are performing better then I thought they would but they need rebounding, interior defense, and some toughness and Malone provided all three. They were not going to win a championship even with Malone but they could have been competitive in the playoffs with him. Kobe's ego is getting the better of him.
