Remember, Roger, when you go up to accept your award, you salute with wrist and fingers bent, and kind of stoop into the hand, rather than bringing it up to your brow... just like the real sailors...

Roger,

I looked at the WaPo nomination page and balked at the categories. I suspect that they would have balked at my nomination of opinionjournal.com for the "Best Democratic Party Coverage", and I really was not interested in going through the motions.

If you or Michael J Totten want to come up with a blog slate, I will endorse it, but investing in their cutesy-poo, beltway insider schlock categories just bugged me.

On a basic level, the categorization of blogs seems a refutation of the phenomenon itself. Beyond that, the implicit assumptions of the WaPo's categories are the kind of inane media dismissal that drives away readers in the first place. Maybe they think we're all like Wonkette, or hope we are?

Please, don't anybody vote for Kerry Haters as the blog most likely to survive the year! I want to put the nail in the coffin on November 2nd.

Roger,

Jay Rice has a valid point above. Before your Loyal Readers go voting you up on this thing, are you sure you want that? Remember the old adage, Be careful what you wish for.

The WP doesn't give a fig about blogs. They are trying to determine who is involved and how they can win back some of us. IGNORE THEM.

----------

Winning a blog contest at the Washington Post would be like getting a blessing from Satan. Just having them acknowledge you is fairly convincing evidence that you are rotten, their recognition sure to be bad for anyone's reputation. (Anyone that would hire, let alone value, truth-twisting Howard Kurtz and moral midget E.J. Dionne doesn't have impressively high standards. The WashPo's dishonesty in reporting is no recommendation for letting them tabulate such a contest.)

If they want to know what blogs are out there, let em surf.

If someone decides to nominate me, I promise not to get mad. (Ducking). (And, okay - I promise no more self-promotion during the month of August.)

So, do you wait to be nominated, or do you nominate yourself? Or, do you pronounce that if nominated you will not run and if elected you will not serve [sic]?
