I’d take the plan if the powers that be promise that the death panels will be very effective, and that they will have none of the silly politization of medical care that we saw earlier this year with the new mammogram recommendations.
Otherwise, we can’t afford the entitlements we’ve already got. Medicare and Medicaid do not pay physicians well enough to carry the current burden–adding new patients at or near the government’s current cost structure will only make things worse. And to make the new health care plan “cost neutral”,
The uninsured already have options for primary care: federally qualified health clinics, free clinics, and discounts and charity from current providers.
To those who would say that we already ration health care now: I agree. It is far more honest than rationing based on political connections.
To those who dislike the current system: I agree, and I think McCain had the more honest plan in 2008.
