In evaluating Gore’s op-ed, it’s revealing to read National review’s 2000 compilation of “The Gore Lies:”

Gore’s tenuous relationship with reality is nothing new. It’s worth noting that had he carried his home state of Tennessee in 2000, he would have been president regardless of the Florida results. As a resident of Tennessee since 1971 and former constituent of his since he became my congressman in 1977, I can tell you that the reason this favorite son didn’t carry his home state is very simple: those who know him best like him least.
