Because one of the President’s greatest powers is of appointments. He has a large number of new Judgeships to fill, 2 empty seats on the FRB, and numerous other lesser jobs available. In fact, the only jobs available today are for the Federal Government, and they are all under the President’s control. House members are generally not wealthy, and if a losing Democratic Congressman wants to put food on the table come January, he will have to be on Obi’s good side. If the right deals are made, the 218 is in the bag.
