Why does anyone believe The New York Times about anything, ever?

Seems to me that the NYT is seriously diluting the value of its brand–which is closely connected, obviously, to its reputation for accurate, factual, and comprehensive reporting–in order to pursue a political agenda. How does this square with the fiduciary obligations of public-company management to shareholders?
