What bothers me about the whole debate is that mentioning a Constitutional argument is considered a mark of extremist right wing-nuttery. (I.e. “Where in the Constitution does the Federal Government get this power? And what about the Tenth Amendment? Whacko!)
Madison was right about not putting our faith in walls of parchment. We have let government get big enough that it has bought its own faction by pitting one half of the people against the other half of the people. Oh, the power to disperse the wealth of others! As mighty as gravity, and just as inevitable.
Hopefully we can stave this off until the next election, at which time our people will be given a test. Let’s hope we pass.
