This is the point: last November, the American people thought they were electing a “post-partisan,” “post-racial” President who would work to restore unity and self-confidence to the country.

Candidate Obama said repeatedly on the stump that he intended to bring foundational, fundamental changes to America. I took that to mean that he intended to change our nation’s very nature and remake it into something the men who propagated our founding principles would not recognize and certainly never intended. What did the Americans who elected him think he meant? Working to restore unity and self-confidence is a far cry from working to make foundational, fundamental change. Ronald Reagan restored unity and self-confidence and he did it by harkening back to our ideological roots, not abandoning them. The “American people” may have been snookered, but it seems to me that too many among us were willingly duped.
