The wet blanket strategy of federal bureaucracy defeats many an honest attempt at reform.

Paraphrasing Milton Friedman: Each bureaucracy in the government has a sophisticated PR function, paid for at taxpayer expense, to promote its own preservation. Take the NEA for example, how much do you think spent to defeat Ronald Reagan’s planned elimination this department? It committed every resource at its tax-payer-funded disposal… which is today $67.2 billion per year (or $433 per taxpayer). The most oppressed minority in this country are the taxpayers who want limited government.
