One further comment on European discrimination between themselves – in a German class, we had textbooks that were printed *in* Germany. We did make note of the fact that on the *GERMAN* produced European map, Switzerland did not appear. One could argue, well, it’s a small country, and they didn’t want to bother. (even though parts speak something some call German.). Since Lichstenstein *was* on the map, and is even smaller, that theory is blown. (So was Belgium.)
But it did put the prof’s experience with a Swiss hostlier, after making phone reservations, in a whole new light. When she checked in and presented her passport, she got a “You’re an *American*. We thought you were a German. We’ll get you a better room.”
