Part of the problem too is that many of the policy pronouncements made by “progressive” politicians can be more accurately described as tactics rather than an articulation of core values. Part of this can be seen with their infatuation with public transportation and their disdain for all the little peasants who commute in their cars from the suburbs. Remember court ordered school busing? The Wise decided that they would mandate a grand social experiment that would yield wonderful results because, after all, it was thought up by grand and wonderful people. Much to the chagrin of the Wise, the experiment was RUINED because the DAMN GUINEA PIGS FLED!

This has always vexed those inclined towards social engineering. The power of the peasants to “vote with their feet” is hated by those who have the hubris to believe that they can manage our lives better than we can. The iconic Berlin Wall is perhaps the best example of the depths to which the Wise will go to ensure the cooperation of the guinea pigs.

If you have to depend upon public transportation it really isn’t feasible to buy a house in the suburbs if there are no rail or bus lines that go out there. And who decides that? The Wise, elected or otherwise. The high energy costs of the present is not a “bug” to the so-called progressives, its a feature.
