I am a 53 year old woman, 2nd generation Cambridge woman who was born and raised in Cambridge MA. I went to the “Pilot School” in the 70′s, an expericmant run by the Harvard U. Dept. of Education. Being Blond, I got the B-Jesus kicked out of me almost dailey by the black girls, who were always waiting to kill any blonde girl who dared to hang out with the black guys and dance to James brown and go to Aretha concerts (which were $1 at the Boston Comman, occasionally)….I was forced to turn the other cheek and act as if all the beatings didn’t happen…I was forced to take my last year in High School as “work-study” and after going on to U-Mass-where the local kids go- because the Harvard doors are very closed, unless you are poor or on affirmative action,… I traveled the Red line to Roxbury-Dorchester, dailey. The eletist left the train by Charles street, of course. I am appauled at this Harvard Professor because the people of Cambridge in many ways, (“The Left Bank”) opened the doors of equality for all people of color. Michelle Obama should have a Beer with Wendy Murphy’s client…and let’s really talk! People in Cambridge have been the ones to open the doors to many Civil Rights Leaders, Martin Luther King went to B.U., Bill Cosby received his degree at B.U. WHen we were kids we used to say stuff like “your Mammma” etc. Sounds like Mr. Gates has an arrested development.!
