People bring up the notion that cops (a few, some or many) are bad and that therefore they don’t deserve respect. But even if we concede that there are bad cops, lets take it to the absolute limit and say who knows, maybe they just randomly pick people up on the street and do who knows what with them. Well even in that case it would be more important than ever to be polite and courteous to the officer since you don’t want to do anything that would give him any idea in his mind that you might be a good one to take away. There just is no “rational” reason to mouth off at any cop any time, even if you know you are dealing with a corrupt cop, especially if you are dealing with a corrupt cop. You want to have the shortest possible interaction with them, give them what they want, get them on their way.

It is almost some sort of pathological need that some people have for attention or some freaky thing going on where they need to prolong the interaction and make it as dramatic as possible to somehow fill some pathetic need in their own life.
