Thoughts on July 4, America, and multiculturalism

Thanks for a great 4th of July column! Freedom loving Americans have a lot in common. Liberty and equality are both honored, but tyranny in the name of equality has been on a long march. The seduction of socialism may ensnare the inexperienced, and the ignorant, and those who seek to govern rather than serve, but there are many at work to restore and protect our liberties from petty tyrants.
The best attributes from each assimilated group add to our common American culture, and that makes a great nation better. As you remind us there is a profound difference between genuine love for country and “pretended patriotism.” Some confuse their adoption of a permanent cynicism of our country’s achievements, and traditions for patriotism. As sad and unhealthy as that may be, as you remind us, millions are seizing opportunities for a brighter day for their children through home schooling. Also, in academia new reputations are being made while old ones fade. Patrick Henry thrives and Antioch folds. We are still a city on a shining hill, and there is a vigorous new root of liberty taking hold in the land.
