I studied classical art (years ago!) and I recall trying to understand the works of Picasso. Judging from the child like lines in his paintings it seemed to me that he could not draw very well! In fact, as I later learned, he could draw as well as any notable Italian High Renaissance artist. So, what was it that the modern Picasso was trying to say in his paintings. You can/will draw your own conclusions but, I thought the child like lines were his attempt to tear down the layers of stifling organization that adult experience plasters on top of a child’s free thinking, unfettered creativity. Picasso teaches us that once we become adults in our thinking, it becomes nearly impossible to regain that child like, unencumbered creative thought. Picasso seems to have achieved the impossible! In a word, we conform to new standards of behavior as we age. Conformity, sometimes without rational objection, is what Picasso saw. The chattering classes, that would be Chuckie Schumer and Co. speaking, might learn a bit from studying Picasso for a day or two. In fact, those who harbor extreme points of view on both sides of the GREAT political divide would do society well to make a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and study Picasso’s works. Perhaps the extreme would be pundits could learn to reacquire their childhood creativity and work outside of the bonds imposed by ignorance and arrogance. All the chatter just makes me sick!
