“Affirmative Action,” hyphenated Americans, and other conundrums
“On logical grounds I have to oppose Affirmative Action. But I have seen at least a few products of it that convince me it is not all bad. There are some young people who, given a chance by affirmative action, despite seeming to have insurmountable obstacles from their background and training, take great advantage of that chance, and end up running rings around their co-workers who were the ‘obvious’ hires.”
Glenmore: An even greater number could run rings around their co-workers or even just become co-workers if we could break the union stranglehold on secondary education so the subjects of affirmative action could compete for admission on an equal basis.
