My background is Army, but the USMC vets above have it right – W. has the troops’ respect as a leader. He earned it by backing them and continually showing his concern and affection. There’s one other thing here, though – the troops know that W. wanted the same thing they do – victory, the only justifiable result for the incredible sacrifices they have made for us since 2001. Obama’s affection and enthusiasm for them and their mission is so far just lip service.
