I couldn’t agree more. In fact, I’ll go you one better. I personally don’t believe there is any such thing as “race” in the way it is normally used at all: “black” race, “white” race, “hispanic” race, “Chinese” race. Morally, we are all just human beings, regardless of which country or culture gave us or our ancestors birth.

I don’t mean this just as a political statement either. Think back to your high school biology. Remember when they told you about how scientists classified all living things into categories, like phylum, order, species, etc.? “Race” was NOT one of those categories! “Race” is just a sociological/political term that someone concocted. It has no precise meaning in any scientific sense. If that sounds wrong to you, I challenge you to make a list of all of the “races” in the world and to specify who belongs to each of these races. Is there really a “white” race? If so, what people belong to it? Do the British? Even the people from India who settled there before and India got its independence? Are the Irish or the Italians “white”? If so, why were they the subject of so much negative reaction when they arrived in America and why did this end? Are Jews “white”? Is there a Canadian race? Is there an American race? Who belongs to it? Who doesn’t? I could go on but I suspect I’ve made my point….

Consider the consequences: if there is no such thing as race then there can’t be any such thing as racism. That means that if you object to a law – or the failure to enforce that law – no one can accuse you of racism BECAUSE THERE IS NO SUCH THING! If “race” doesn’t exist, “racism” can’t exist either!

As long as you sincerely believe as I do that “race” does not exist, you can make all sorts of remarks about immigration policy – or a great many other policies for that matter – in good conscience. If you don’t believe in the notion of “race” you can’t, by definition, be “racist”.
