The author asks the question: Am I racist if I ask for ID after having stopped a driver for blowing a red light. He says no and then cites various reasons as to why not. I agree. You’re not a racist if you ask a suspected Mexican for ID. It’s not racist in any way to single out Mexicans for additional scrutiny! Here’s why: MEXICAN IS NOT A RACE!
Make all the arguments you want that the Arizona law is discriminatory, biased, unfair, xenophobic even. But racist? Absolutely NOT!
Given today’s political atmosphere, there’s a lot of definitions for racism and racist. But all definitions center around one common theme: race. Once again, Mexican is NOT a race.
