The Persisitence of Rubbish, or How to Wreck a Civilization Without Really Trying
Just the title betrays how boring and unoriginal these thinkers are.
I desperately wish there were a branch of sociology dedicated to studying the cultural bastions of the intellectually exhausted Left, such as academia and the journalistic establishment. I’m much more interested in the people who posed the question, “How Queer is Art History,” (note the lack of capitalization on “Is,” by the way) than I am in any conclusions they could possibly draw; much in the same way we study the Mek– because they’re interesting in themselves, not because they might be right about the world riding on the back of a giant turtle, or whatever.
Really, it is amazing there are no teams of sociologists and cultural anthropologists following the Clark curators around from board room to cocktail party, taking diligent notes. Well, perhaps, it’s because the sociologists wish they would get invited to those parties, themselves.
