When Obama was elected, many people, even many who voted against him, hoped that one collateral benefit of his election would be progress in the intellectual and moral swamp that oozes around the charge of racism. “At last,” it was hoped, “we can move beyond all that and deal with people on the basis of their real promise, accomplishments, and failings. Finally, we’ll be able to take the spurious idea of race out of the equation.”
No such luck. If anything, Obama’s election has heralded a marked upswing in racialism. Now, more than ever, if you criticize the ideas or behavior of someone who happens to be black, you run the risk of being called racist.
It is an epithet that overuse has more or less emptied of intellectual content. But it still carries a toxic political payload. The problem, as the philosopher Sidney Hook observed some years ago (and I’ve quoted this before in this space), that spurious charges of racism, far from making us more sensitive to the real thing, have the effect of dulling us to genuine instances of racism. “As morally offensive as is the expression of racism wherever it is found,” Hook wrote,
a false charge of racism is equally offensive, perhaps even more so, because the consequences of a false charge of racism enable an authentic racist to conceal his racism by exploiting the loose way the term is used to cover up his actions. The same is true of a false charge of sexism or anti-Semitism. This is the lesson we should all have learned from the days of Senator Joseph McCarthy. Because of his false and irresponsible charges of communism against liberals, socialists, and others among his critics, many communists and agents of communist influence sought to pass themselves off as Jeffersonian democrats or merely idealistic reformers. They would all complain they were victims of red-baiting to prevent criticism and exposure.
In my view, the Obama administration is shaping up to be a monument to incompetence. Not being a member of the House of Representatives, I am still allowed to say such things. The fact that his administration has at once made it incalculably more difficult to be honest about race even as it pursues policies that themselves are racialist (see Holder, Eric) is probably a small thing in the context of its large-scale assaults on individual liberty, economic prosperity, and national security. I can’t helping thinking it is important, though, if for no other reason that Obama’s post-post-racialism is a potent impediment to telling the truth.

Jimmy Carter is a senile, meddlesome, narcissistic, old fool.
Will he ever shut up? Perhaps the House will pass a similar set of rules about the decorum of a noisome ex-President making unfounded remarks about members of Congress.
Thanks, Roger, for this one. I voted for Obama in the California primary because I believed that America owed it to its Black citizens, and to its conscience, to have a Black person run. After the election, I felt intuitively that a great karmic burden had been lifted from our nation. But I am appalled by the superficiality of his presidency. We need more solid leadership and less sleek eminence.
I admire Carter’s consistency. He was not only the worst president in my lifetime but also the worst ex-president.
“But what if the President prosecutes his policy by delivering a hypocritical and mendacious speech…?”
Well, if he convinces enough congressmen, we start a war.

Only the naive or the ignorant could have believed that. No, it was obvious that the election of Obama would embolden the race baiters and strengthen the sense of racial entitlement of blacks and other minorities.
This is likely only going to get worse. It will also be interesting to see how our racial politics are played when whites reach minority status, which is something only 30 years or so away.
I agree with Mike in #3.
As for #2:
Way to assuage your white guilt there runbei, do you feel better now? I guess the 320,000 white Union soldiers that died and countless more that were wounded during the Civil War didn’t pay enough of a price. Way to honor MLK Jr.’s “I have a Dream” speech by voting for the color of a man’s skin and not the content of his character.
Too many people benefit from keeping racial divisiveness alive and the majority of them are on the left.
I caught a bit of carter and his pontificating. (I wasn’t fast enough to change the channel).
My observation is: this is just one more attempt of his to seem relevant. The man is beyond pathetic. He’s desperate.
you’d think he’d be happy – he’s no longer the worst president this country has ever had.

That is what’s so disagreeable to contemplate about the future.
Obama is so young.
Dissent is racism.
Soon it will be a mental disease.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment.
PS But I am safe, I can quote Marx in German (that would be Austrian as spoken in Germany, as our Supreme Leader teaches us).
Normally I don’t agree with Carter, but I think he’s not too far off the mark. The vasty majority of criticism, especially on here, seem to be accusations that Obama is a ‘communist’, an ‘unsurper’, someone who wasn’t born in the US. Basically an outsider and an alien. I’d probably at least give the critics a slight bit of credit if they just were honest and came out and called him the n-word.
The left plays it’s role for sure, but this isn’t about the left at the moment. This is about a small but vocal group of people on right, who obviously have problems with the color and family background of the president, and who the right has not bothered trying to shut up. At the end of the day, they’ll be a political liability for the right.
Maybe someone should point out that the senile squeaky voiced ex president is also one of the foremost anti semites in the United States. For Carter to call someone a racist while he is making a good living by bashing Jews and building up the Islamic jihad is an absolute disgrace. Carter is a bitter evil old man.
Jimmy Caarter’s sole quest since he left the White House has been to somehow remain “relevant.” The Wilson imbroglio is a perfect example for him to demonstrate his threadbare sense of moral outrage. He realizes that merely accusing Wilson of “bad manners” isn’t enough anyomre. Instead he pulls out “Old Reliable” to show that he’s still got it, is “one with the people”, and is capable of being really, really really outraged.
I wouldn’t have thought it possible six months ago but I am starting to believe that the accusation of “racism” is finally starting to lose it’s bite through overuse and demagoguery. If a lame-o like Jimmy Carter is using it then that is a good indication that the use of the term as a perjorative has passed it’s “sell by” date.
There is good reason that bearing false witness is one of the top ten sins. Jimmah should spend more time with his bible and less time opening his mouth.
3. Mike, he’s not going to die the worst, though.
As for the charge itself, I think we’re rapidly getting to the point where it’s lost it’s toxicity. It’s like a junior high kid calling another one “queer”. It’s just a general pejorative with no specific meaning at this point.
Might as well purge “racism” along with all other variants on “race” from the dictionary.
No ex-President has been more of a national disgrace, an insufferable prig, nor has any fanned the flames of divisiveness in the guise of “unity” than this peanut peddler.
Skimmin’ Jimmy (as well as his entire Arab-money-juiced entourage) is the poster child for leftism gone off the reservation.
He attacked Reagan PERSONALLY…as a human being, not his policies…meddled in affairs while Clinton was in office, undermined Bush at every turn…and has the unmitigated gall to hold himself out as a statesman and diplomat.
The entrenched media, of course…deify this cretin. His behavior has been atrocious and he, of all people, is NOT the keeper of the etiquette rulebook.
He slings around words like apartheid and racism as if they were nursery rhyme frivolities. This is a man with no conscience, no patriotism, no honor and no dignity. If I ruled the world, he would be exiled from it, on an island with every other self-absorbed hypocrite who lives in a glass house with no mirrors.
Former President Carter was way wrong!
It was not racism at all. RACISM never existed in America.
Many right winger republicans in senator and congress are truly working for the poors and the helpless.
Right!!… it is only happen in the parallel universe.
Interesting comment no. 3. though I dont understand why.
I liked Carter more as an ex-president than president. And I think he is correct that there is an element of racism in the hatred of our President. But Wilson?…I just dont get that feeling…could be wrong though. I remember attending a college in the south where they prayed so much and were so perfect talking the love and the compassion so much, and without sin, yet, when it came to race, the love stopped there. I often wondered about that whole scene over the years. I still do. The truth is out there…somewhere.
The comment, on the lead-in page to this story, tells it all:
“A false charge of racism is even more offensive than a real one.”
These folks have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA how the majority of us — non-racist Americans who have bent over backwards to aid minorities in our daily lives up to now — are mad as hell and are not going to take it anymore.
No more sitting back and “turning the other cheek” like we all have done. Myself, and millions like me, are shredding complacency and embracing activism as defense.
By accusing whites, conservatives, libertarians and small-towm America as racist, liberals are screwing with the wrong segment of America — because you can’t attack the backbone of any society, and expect the rest of the body to stand.
NBC/MSNBC is stirring up the race baiting with the Jimmy Carter interview more than any other media outlet. GE has so much invested in Obama they will pull all the stops to save his agenda.
And to top it off, Jay Leno’s guest last night was the anti-american, anti-capitalist Michael Moore, and the night before, race hustler, Kanye West. This is one sick network.
I will not watch anything on NBC again, not even the NFL on sunday night.
The last time I was surprised by Jimmy Carter was when he won the election.
President Jimmy Carter’s continued intrusion in other administrations can never make up for his own disastrous 1 term presidency; this narcissistic fool needs to go away. Yet he continues to return like some bad B-movie monster jumping out of the television to capitulate to terrorists, give birth to Stagflation, & create other worse problems for the USA in general.
2.
Spare us your self-indulgence.
You put yourself, your feelings before what is RIGHT for the country.
I expected no less from that vicious anti-Semite.
The new meaning of racist is opponent. You could argue that is trivializing the word, but it’s too late for that. One might as well try to promote the original meaning of gay.
Well, Bibio44, there you go again. There is a big difference from relaying information that has been vetted from many sources that testify to it being true & relying on authorities and relaying something that prima facie false. To say that someone lied when all the available evidence said it was true is just flat out disingenuous & I am tired of it. You do not score any points for that any more so stop saying it. And, for that matter, it’s time that we stop giving any power to the race card. If everyone stops cowering when the word is spoken, it will lose its power. It’s also time for someone to tell Carter to shut up.
“We cannot publicly tell the truth about race…”
Oh, we can, if we’re prepared to pay the toll. Granted that it’s more than most people think they can afford…but the consequences of not paying it are becoming more evident by the second.
Like so many other democrats, he’s exactly like the plantation owing class were prior to the Civil War. He’s all for black folks having rights as long as he can decide where and how they live while exercising the rights he grants them. The whole democrat party believes in keeping blacks mired on the poverty plantation or beholden to the party for their job. The only reason he yells “racism” all the time is because he knows what he thinks and is sure everyone else thinks the same way.
Since 1975 abortion has killed far more black folks than died under slavery in this country, but that’s not a race issue, right? We’re supposed to believe that the democrat party advocating even more abortion is not due to their history or racism, and that the party of Lincoln is now just chock full of racists? Yeah, sure, and secession from the Union was the selfless democrat attempt to protect their “darkies” from being forced to fend for themselves.
You have to wonder what’s wrong with black folks when they support scum like Carter or Obama and when a good many of them are attracted to Is-slum. It’s like they want to be enslaved and murdered since Is-Slum is and was the greatest enslaver in history and democrat party abortion clinics are the most murderous racists in the history of this country.
Regards
Janet Daley pretty often says stupid things. It’s the Telegraph for Pete’s Sake – how seriously can you take it? And Jimmy Carter was absolutely correct in his assessment, and thank God someone finally had the guts to come out and say it. “There are many people in this country who don’t think a black man has the right to be president” – how can you argue that?
Many years ago,when Carter was President he came visit a senior partner of the Wall St firm at which I was working.The partners office overlooked a large(for the time)trading floor and most everybody shook Carter`s hand.This was shortly after he was elected.
After he left I got to talking to the partner`s executive secretary who happened to be black.She told me Carter was the most condescending man she had ever met.Carter couldn`t believe she was as well educated as she was and had as responsible a job as she had.
The man was a fraud then and apparently hasn`t changed.
Racism is too useful to the democrats to give up. White male Republicans elected and reelected Lincoln. We prosicuted the cival war and enacted the 14th amendment and had nothing to do with Jim Crow. But we are a boggy man to the African-American.
Obama was calling Palin a liar and oppistion to his plan liars in his speech. WTH was he in front of congress in September anyway? Obama does not desrve respect.
Don’t blame me. I calmly warned people that the election of Barack Obama would set back race relations for decades. He used the race card numerous times during the presidential campaign. Even Bill “our first black president” Clinton was slimed in this manner. It was obvious that this behavior would continue forevermore. Thankfully, most whites are getting fed up—and refuse to endure these insults without protest. Obama committed a major blunder when he shot his mouth off regarding the white police officer who arrested “skip” Gates. Formally naive White Americans finally realized that the president is subconsciously, if not even consciously, out to stick it to them good and hard.
I am highly insulted by the false charge of racism. My ancestors fought and died to free this country from the evil of slavery and this is how their memory is dishonored? By no less than a former president?
Mr. Carter, you are a disgrace to the office and your statements are an affront to the dignity of the country.
Just when I thought the Dems could not sink in further in their treatment to the opposition for fighting for injustice, lies, and a move toward a Socialist govt. Jimmy Carter opens his big mouth. What a disgrace to individuals like myself who rebels against lies and corruption. Just a pathic insult to real Americans! The liberals, MSM, and Congress leaders are the real race baiters. I didn’t for Obama and now stand proud! Guess I’m a racist.
Gang, some of you are going to crack on me hard for this, but I just took down the post from earlier today about the white kid being beat up on the bus by the black bullies. I used that incident to talk about black male violence and the reaction middle-class whites and blacks have to it, and how we don’t talk about that openly in our culture much. It has since come out that the police officer who initially described the beating as racial has changed his mind. It appears it was just bullies being bullies, which is bad enough, but not as bad as we first thought.
But that’s not why I took down the item and the link to the video. I took it down because now we have Rush Limbaugh blaming Obama for black kids beating up a white kid on a school bus. This is what happens in “Obama’s America,” he said today on his radio show.
How low will these people go? Look, I think it’s important to talk about black male violence, or at least as important as it is to talk about any other important social trend. I don’t think we should be squeamish about discussing it in a responsible and fair-minded way, despite what the politically correct say. But good grief, Limbaugh is up to something wicked. He’s plainly trying to rally white conservatives into thinking that now that we have a black president, blacks are rising up to attack white kids! Christ have mercy, what is wrong with these people?
I won’t have anything to do with it, not even tangentially, which is why I took down the post. I can’t see this as anything other than Limbaugh deliberately trying to whip up racial fear and loathing of the president. This goes far, far beyond tough criticism of Obama. Does that man Limbaugh have any idea what rough beast he’s calling forth?
On his deathbed not too many years ago, a relative of mine confessed to having been part of a white lynch mob in the 1930s, which strung up a black man after he was caught having sex with a white woman. She accused him of rape. The sheriff led the lynch mob. There was no need for a trial; what a black man did to a white woman was considered so horrifying that nobody could wait for a trial and a verdict. After the black man was murdered, the guilt-stricken white woman confessed that the man had been her lover, and she called him a rapist to protect her honor.
None of us ever knew this about my kinsman, until in his dying days, he admitted it because it tortured him. It had been on his heart all his life. I pray that his repentance in the face of eternity helped him find mercy. It unnerved me, though, to think that that kindly old man had once fallen under the sway of race hatred to that degree, a race hatred that was part of the society into which he was born and raised. It still does, because that world seems like a thousand years ago. But it only seems so far away because many people worked too hard — and some even gave their lives — to drive those demons out. And now here is Limbaugh, of Palm Beach, and his ilk, calling them back insouciantly, for political advantage. This is evil.
It’s undeniably true that black males, as a group, are disproportionately responsible for violent crimes today (and blacks are disproportionately victims, too). This is important to talk about. This means something. I hate the kind of political correctness that demands we pretend not to see what we see. But as far as I’m concerned, if the Limbaughs of the world are going to be doing this kind of thing, and trying to blame, with no logical grounds whatsoever, a black president for black-on-white violence, and if they’re going to do this in an increasingly hysterical atmosphere of protest against that black president, I don’t want to talk about these things at all. Now is not the time. With this kind of inflammatory rhetoric, they are quite simply tearing the country apart.
Where do they think this is going to go?
Poor Jimmy! This ridiculous charge reveals more about his own character than it does about Joe Wilson. Like most liberals I know, he is obsessed with race, and can shamelessly inject it into any argument. No matter how irrelevant, he will miraculously see skin color through the eyes of those he disagrees with. These ad hominem attacks will continue precisely because they have been so effective in the past. After all, for the left, this election was about two things: hatred of all things Bush, and the color of Obama’s skin. Because the ability to blame Pres Bush for the oppressive weight of Obama’s proposals has become more difficult, they are falling back to their redoubt: race.
“I think it’s based on racism,”
If liberal Democrats are a race, then that’s correct…at least in my case, because I pretty much despise all of them, black, white, whatever.
“Well, if he convinces enough congressmen, we start a war.”
Right. The usual lefty bald-faces lie: George Bush somehow started a war with Iraq, even though the United States was bombing Iraq 50 to 100 times per year under Clinton and did so right up until the day Slick left office.
George Bush didn’t start a war with anyone, he just changed tactics in a war that was already in progress.
It has come to this. A former president of the United States (speaking for a large bloc on the left) believes that opposition to a black president must, without evidence, be attributed to American racism.
Such appears to be the new racial standard: Opponents of Obama are racist until proven innocent. Opponents of Obama are deemed racist by definition.
It remains to be seen if serious Democrats condemn all this as it deserves. It could happen.
But the Party should be able to see the magnitude of the problem it now faces. Cheapening the charge of racism has been the life work of race hustlers like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. It has run increasingly close to the surface in many Democratic circles. But it has never been quite so blatant.
The effect of all this is predictable. Obama is losing support among independents and moderates, but not by any means irretrievably so. Obama and the Party need to win them back. Do they really think that accusing them of racism for reconsidering their vote will help matters? Can we honestly say that opposing a president must be racist if that president is black? Do they really think they can prevent opposition by playing the race card in such an egregious fashion?
Every president in my long lifetime has evoked intensely demonstrated animosity among many citizens. But the abiding principle of American civil discourse was that such feelings may have been mistaken but were held in good faith, that reasonable people could disagree about politics. That citizens engafed in public debate should be given the benefit of the doubt, at least as regards their motives?
Politicians might accuse their opponents of every despicable act. LBJ, Nixon, and George W. Bush were all called murderers in their time. They were each wantonly and stupidly compared to Hitler.
Some of the haters even declared that the supporters of these presidents were themselves evil. Certainly Nixon and Bush (and Reagan) voters were all subtly accused of being closet racists.
But I do not believe that any former president ever condemned his fellow Americans quite so sweepingly as Mr. Carter.
Of course, this is the same Mr. Carter who accepted the “Nobel Peace Prize” for attacking his own country’s actions! And this is the Carter who unfailingly blames Israel for not agreeing to be destroyed by its “neighbors”! This is the Carter whose latest book has received rave reviews from Osama Bin Laden! This is the Carter who tossed aside the bipartisan foreign-policy tradition of “Uniting our voices at the water’s edge” (as the late Senator Vandenberg put it) along with the longer-standing bipartisan tradition of former presidents not publicly attacking their successors!
So I guess my shock is naïve. But still; I voted for this guy! I campaigned for
I didn’t vote for him. Not because he is a black man but just as I felt Jesse Jackson was the wrong Man for the job I felt the same way about Obama.
Colin powell I would have vote for and I was very disappointed when he decided not to run. Jimmy carterhas been as big an embarrassment 30 plus years as any of the Morons that are in office now. In both houses the proof is so overwhelming that stupidity knows no color. Rangel, Pelosi, Schumer, Waters et.al. You can’t swing a dead cat in that building without hitting smeone with an IQ somewhere between a beet and a cabbage.
You will note that the liberal media has not used Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson this time around to push the race card. I actually think Al and Jesse are smart enough to know that this is wearing thin with the white community. NBC knew what they were going to get out of Jimmy Carter, and he delivered as always.
Whereas, Bill Clinton would not have been a good choice for NBC since the Dems used the race card on him last year as well as John McCain in the general election.
The Dems must carry so much guilt from being the racist party for over a 100 years, that they think they are repenting from their sins by being the race hustling party for the next 100 years.
Have any of you people been in the south lately? There are people who won’t carry a five dollar bill, because it bears the image of Lincoln. They won’t use stamps that bear Lincoln’s likeness. They throw out pennies. Some of these people are my relatives in South Carolina, I’ve seen it first hand. My family has been in SC for 250 years– and the state hasn’t made much progress in that time. Let me tell you racism is alive and well in the south. (And some other places, too. Check out the website chimpout dot com, if you want to be truly appalled.) I applaud Jimmy Carter for having the guts to speak the truth.
“It has since come out that the police officer who initially described the beating as racial has changed his mind. It appears it was just bullies being bullies, which is bad enough, but not as bad as we first thought.”
Baloney. I’m not buying this for even one moment. The attack definitely seemed motivated by race. The odds of this being the case are minimally 90%. There is little doubt that if a white student while being cheered on by other white students attacked a black child—this incident would be described as a racially tinged incident. I think that we can take for granted that Dallas has many politically correct public officials who believe that blacks cannot be real racists. The police officer would have a paid an awful price if had not “changed his mind.” He might have never received another promotion for the rest of his career.
““But what if the President prosecutes his policy by delivering a hypocritical and mendacious speech…?”
Well, if he convinces enough congressmen, we start a war.”
Ah the left and they’re beloved playground logic.
He Did it First!!!!
What are you 12?
“There are many people in this country who don’t think a black man has the right to be president” – how can you argue that?
In 2008 I heard that America was so irretrievably racist that it could never nominate a black man to run as president.
Later in 2008 I heard that America was so irretrievably racist that it would never actually elect a black man as president.
In 2008 I heard that America was so irretrievably racist that it would never actually elect a black man as president with over 50% of the vote.
Then I heard America was irretrievably racist because not everybody voted for Obama (apparently presidents getting 100% of the vote is supposed to be a common occurrence).
Now I’m hearing that anybody who doesn’t agree with Obama about everything is irretrievably racist.
What’s more likely, that there are racists under every bed, or that some people just can’t let go of the race card because without it they have no other tool with which to analyze the world?
I think the answer is obvious.
even president obama isn’t going for this one.
What are you 12?
According to Rasmussen, only 12% of the population believes opposition to Obama’s healthcare ‘plans’ are racist in nature.
He is not 12, but obviously he is one of the 12-percenters.
Around these parts we just call them nutters.
Jimmy Carter should heed these words: “Just Go Away”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTCNSpx2wzI
This song was released in Jimmy Carter’s administration so he might be aware of it when he was not running away from mean bunnies in the forest.
Redchief, I live in the South. Everything you have mentioned I have not run into personally (save for my Dad will not save his pennies). Also when you are talking about a region, you capitalize it: South, not south. The South is a wonderful place to live for its warm climate & mild Winters (Yankees continue to move down here for the low taxes & other things). It still does not change the fact that Jimmy Carter was a crummy POTUS & he needs to stop being in the spotlight. Why? He’s no longer President. He needs to go build a house, go into counseling for being attacked for a rabbit, or just retire. Carter should be glad that he won’t be alone as the Worst President in Modern History after Obama’s term is over though.
Wanna bet the Libs abolish the ‘forbidden words’ rules once a republican is in the white house again?
The protests aren’t about race – they’re about fascists trying to destroy this country. And the liberal fascists have behaved exactly as we knew they would. Among the other things they’ve destroyed, now freedom of speech is gone.
Whatever happened to ‘Congress shall pass no law abridging freedom of speech or the free exercise thereof?’
Fascism, you’ve found a home in today’s Democrat party.
“Jimmy Carter, Read Sidney Hook!”
..don’t tell that old fool to read Sydney Hook; just give him the hook!
Carter was equally outrageous (and dumb) in his book on Israel/Palestine, Peace Not Apartheid. After the book was published, ridicule and outrage forced Jimmy to walk back (I’m sure reluctantly) the Apartheid claim about Israel.
I think this is the book that Osama bin laden recommended in his recording released last week.
Some of Jimmy’s anti-semitic views do appear, in fact, to relate to his fixation on certain passages in the Bible. I think Phyllis Chesler has written about this.
He manages to demonstrate (over and over)the truth of his mother Lillian’s observation…
Sometimes when I look at my children I say to myself, “Lillian, you should have stayed a virgin.”
Cutting to the chase
“Democrats can’t understand why Americans don’t want government in charge of the most personal decisions in our lives, and therefore assume we’re all just a bunch of racists.”
#30,
Referring to detractors as being deceptive and calling them flat out liars are too different things.
Palin was absolutely being deceptive, and he called her out. It was about time. Her 15 minutes are well up and over.
The symbolism of a Strom Thurmond political underling boorishly calling the first black president a liar (particularly on something Obama DIDN’T lie about) carries way much more political weight.
This is so pathetically pathetic.
they don’t send out Jessy Jackson to say that “its racist”
they don’t send out al Sharpton to say that “its racist”
they don’t send out Jeri Wright to say that “its racist”.
they don’t send out literally hundreds of other cookie-cutter
democrat operatives you see on tv news channels to say that “its racist”
They send out Jimmunnie Carter, a white guy, to say that “its racist”
Like that puts paid to the notion that its racist.
Sure does. Look at how Carter ran against Lester Maddox in 1970, and portrayed himself as a bigger redneck than fellow dem Maddox, in primarys, just to pander to the electorate.
Redchief #40
Instead of contemplating your navel in a country that affords its minorities rights, freedoms, opportunities and security probably unequalled anywhere else in the world, consider a few simple axioms. First, every country has racists. Secondly, given that racists will always be with us, the more pertinent question must be, where does the US come in the league tables?
For all your hand-wringing, and the endless liberal obsession with how shockingly and reprehensibly racist this country is, the US is an also-ran in comparison with just about every other nation on earth. Think India. Think China. Think Russia. Think, yes, Switzerland, Germany, France, Austria and all those civilized members of the EU (I exempt the UK – like every other country it has its racists but the point is, racism is not shamelessly institutionalized like it is just about everywhere else).
The US is so racist that it freely elected to the presidency an african american, a member of the racist’s no. 1 hate group. Now, redchief, where else in the world do you think that could occur?
#34,
Of course Limbaugh and the like are going to use that as they really don’t have much else. They need to invoke the old tired fears of the criminally-minded sex-crazed negro with his jazz music out to steal your women, sell your kids reefer, and take your money. A Gary Indianization of America with no more white flight corners to turn to.
Willie Horton rides again.
34. Rod Dreher: Excellent post, excellent judgment.
You sir have more integrity than anyone else writing on PJM. Hats off to you.
It’s heartening to know that in sea of frothing irrationality, there are still rational voices that can be heard through the din.
Sidney Hook says it more eloquently, but it is really “the little boy who cried ‘wolf’”.
P.S. Carter and Maddox both pandered to the democrat electorate in primary elections in JoeJuh.
Oh geez…now the liberal dems are wheeling Carter out of the mothballs to do their dirty work?
Obama is from my home town of Honolulu. He looks like many of us who are of mixed blood. I never once considered voting for him, nor have I agreed with any of his policies. This has nothing to do with his race, since I am of mixed heritage too. My decisions are based soley on his hard-left beliefs. Calling us racists is just the lefts’ way of ending the argument without having to come up with any legitimate answers to our concerns that we don’t want our country to become a socialist nation. Socialists are loosers!! Those who believe in socialism come from two angles, 1) those that believe they are intellicually superior to all others and that the masses can’t possibly handle their own lives without the benevolent liberal leaders, 2) those who are simply too lazy to make it on their own, and are constantly looking for freebies.
hey Jimmy, why on’t you and Kanye West hang together? you belong together. White trash / black trash.
“34. Rod Dreher: Excellent post, excellent judgment.”
Rod Dreher of “Crunchy Cons” fame seems utterly unaware of the fact that police departments for many years have been discouraged from describing black on white attacks as often motivated by racism. The politically correct U.S. Justice Department goes out of its way to investigate any violent incident that might indicate white racism. It is my understanding, however, that no official statistics are kept whatsoever regarding possible black racist attacks on whites!
If you happen to see Jimmy Carter please call us at 917-433-2127.
Try to keep him calm and confined and unaware he is being watched.
We have no idea how he escaped from the nursing home activities room.
Thank You…
The race card is the first refuge of a leftist.
To # 34 Rod Dreher: You must be from the Mid-West because you certainly do not understand sarcasm. Limbaugh’s entire screed that day was dripping with sarcasm. Think about Rod, if white kids had beat up a black kid on a school bus during Bush’s terms, you bet your life someone would have blamed it on “Bush’s America”. Limbaugh was just sarcastically turning the tables on the left to show them just how rediculous they are.
“…members of the House may still “challenge the President on matters of policy” but are henceforth forbidden to call the President a “liar.”
Well, I guess that leaves it up the rest of us: BARAK OBAMA IS A LYING POS!
Dale @ 55, who states “It’s heartening to know that in sea of frothing irrationality, there are still rational voices that can be heard through the din.”
What are you gloating about?….as you certainly aren’t one of them.
and to Rod Dreher @ 34: I can’t say that the growing resentment is directed specifically towards black people, but towards people who believe they are entitled to something that someone else has worked for, in the interest of “fairness”. America offers greater opportunity for success for ALL citzens than any country on earth. If you feel you haven’t received a big enough piece of the pie, perhaps you should quit whining, get off your ass and produce some of the ingredients, roll the dough, slice the apples or do the baking. Or at least be thankful you live in a land where they feed the indolent, rather than leave them to die.
It is apparent that new “information czar” Cass Sunstein is not alone in his belief that the U.S. Constitution is antiquated and irrelevant.
The House of Representatives (the majority of its Democrat members, anyway) obviously likewise believes that the First Amendment is invalid, and can be ignored.
Someone (or some entity, such as the Supreme Court) needs to remind these bozos that the only lawful way to modify the Constitution is by ratified amendment — not executive or legislative fiat.
Rod Dreher – (34)
“Does that man Limbaugh have any idea what rough beast he’s calling forth?”
ROTFLMAO, oh yeah, it’s RUSH who doesn’t know “what he’s calling forth”. You, sir, are the perfect lying democrat descendent of the perfect racist democrat. We all understand how proud your dear departed one must have been to see his democrat party you now serve move from the occasional lynching to the industrial scale institutional racism of eugenics clinics nationwide. I’m sure he applauded your ability to escape individual feelings of guilt by calling your genocide machine a means to, “ensure a woman’s right to privacy”. In spite of so much to be proud of in you, though, he most definitely would have preferred that you not be so stupid as to try the little indirection tale you posted here. Your feeble attempt at more vile democrat propaganda in no way deflects anyone’s attention from the fact that both democrat propagandists and your president have been beating the racism drum since this past fall in an effort to get mobs of racist black folks into the streets.
Your democrat faith in eugenics as a means to improve the species, however, is obviously not working since your eugenics loving forebears produced you. Anyone even dull normal would realize that blaming Limbaugh for what you and yours have been doing will influence no one. Your party, the democrat racist socialist party, is having its last gasp before destroying itself and it’s none too soon. From seceding from the Union to fighting the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the democrat party has always insisted it had the right to control black folk as tightly as they had their slaves.
Failing in their fight against the Republican Civil Rights Act, democrat elitists settled on nothing less than genocide as a means eliminate a large enough number of blacks to ensure black folks were an ever shrinking minority. Trying to redirect attention from yourselves onto others cannot deflect the spotlight of history from democrat ethnic cleansing and will not help you avoid the rapidly approaching black backlash against the racist democrat socialist party. From your Islamic president who like all Muslims despises Blacks, to the individuals like yourself who lie on behalf of your cause, you can no longer divert attention away from your own racist hatred of black folks. You can no longer escape your own foundational democrat racism. We have seen through your sheets and know you’re the same night riding racists you forbears were.
Eight million plus black infants have been murdered in their mothers’ wombs after democrat true believers suborned their mothers into becoming accessories to racist murder. The unnaturally silenced voices of those millions of black babies cry out for an end to the democrat racist party and they will soon be granted their demand. You and yours have finally managed to entangle yourselves so deeply in your own web of lies that you will soon cease to exist as a national party, and those who tear your rotten structure down will be the black folks you have for generations claimed ownership of.
Let’s have a chit-chat about race…
Why do Blacks hate Mexicans? Why do Mexicans hate Blacks? Why do Spaniards hate Mexicans? Why are Puerto Ricans hated by both Blacks and Mexicans?
Why does 0bama suffer from white guilt? Why is 0bama white/black racist?

While I can believe that about the lower part of SC, I haven’t seen it in many a year. Back in the late sixties, there were a few places like that around Charleston, though. My wife’s family won’t carry a twenty, and always demands tens or fives when they are given one as change. Jackson isn’t very popular among the Cherokee.

#34 Rod Dreher states:
“now we have Rush Limbaugh blaming Obama for black kids beating up a white kid on a school bus. This is what happens in “Obama’s America,”.
That’s correct. That is the message being sent from Obama.
Obama is a black liberationist (a racist and Marxist) and along with his wife blames all the ills of this country on white people. He’s spent his whole life with and seeking out black racists and communists. He has said so. I’ll take him at his word.
Don’t look for any condemnation of this beating of a white child from him, the NAACP, the Nation of Islam, Eric Holder, Van Jones, Valerie Jarrett, Skip Gates, Cornel West, Jesse Jackson, ACORN, the Black Panthers, Al Sharpton or his useful white idoits in the Democratic Party.
Obama is one of them!
Black on white crime is out of control and is not covered by the MSM. They said that racism was not the cause of this incident. Screw you!
Thank you Rush because Obama could care less since he has proven to be an anti-white racist himself.
I do not care about the color of the Obama’s skin and I damned well resent being told that I do.
Carter, the poor old man. He attacked Reagan during his presidency, both the Georges, said some dumb stuff about Clinton too…has made a fool of himself time and time again…
I do not care about the color of the Obama’s skin and I damned well resent being told that I do.
He never got over the fact that Reagan beat him. Why on earth would he come out with such stupidity is beyond reason. He’s totally an embarrassment. That ole darlin’ needs my foot in his mouth.
I do not care about the color of the Obama’s skin and I damned well resent being told that I do.
I’m not angry with black people. I have had a “black” friend since I was 13 years old. I don’t think of her as that “black” friend of mine. It’s not about black!!, it’s about a president that is a socialist and we do notnotnot like it. He lies about his agenda, he lies, period. We do not approve of his actions.
I do not care about the color of the Obama’s skin and I damned well resent being told that I do.
It seems the only way the left…and mainly the blacks on the left can fight back, as they have no other reasons, is to interject the color of a man’s skin. Disgusting puddle of crap.
I do not care about the color of the Obama’s skin and I damned well resent being told that I do.
Maxine Waters needs to be run out of office. She wants everyone at the rallies to be investigated..Well, investigate this Maxine!!
Oh, and Karma my sweet A$$..HOW DARE YOU people vote the color of a man’s skin. What a disgusting tribute to the people of this country! I hope the Karma bunny puddles in your shoes.
“An “outrageous, unfounded and potentially inflammatory remark about race.” That’s what Janet Daley, writing in The Daily Telegraph, said about Jimmy Carter’s contention that Joe Wilson’s outburst “You lie!” during Barack Obama’s address to Congress was “based on racism.””
Daley & Kimball lie to themselves. Technically, saying ‘You lie’ is not racist. But the good ol’ boy showed his hatred that way. Everybody knows some southerners just plain despise blacks, especially those that are educated and in position of power, they just can’t handle it.
President Carter knows. He’s a damn southerner and lives among those folks. It’s like asking a Mexican if he understands Spanish . . .
Jimmy Carter is the penultimate racist and anti-Semite and he’s simply projecting what is in his own heart. Perhaps he should ask Amy about his own egregious past? What Carter doesn’t realize is how much damage he is inflicting on the Democrats and more importantly the country.
Obama’s fundamental problem, beyond his obvious socialist agenda, is that he presented a vision of wanting to be the President of the United States, not President of parts of certain states. Folks have realized that Obama panders to special interests, lacks appropriate judgement, and has neither the skills nor the temperment to be an effective President. Rather than trying to heal rifts and unite the country as a whole, Obama has effectively polarized our nation further and escalated the harsh and angry rhetoric to unprecidented levels. Perhaps he, like his angry and inept predecessor should devote some serious time to introspective analysis and hopefully repair some of the vast rifts that they have created.
@61 Don’t you know that is because blacks are not and cannot be racists. Only white people are racists.
Simple example: black kids beat up a defenseless white kid on a school bus = not racism. But if white kids did the same to a black kid (which, btw, is probably far less likely) then racism must be the reason. Jessie and Al will be all over it immediately.
We should all start to give this increasingly meaningless word the mockery it deserves. As Michelle Malkin and others have suggested, spell it ‘raaaaacist’ (5 As) to indicate how silly and dishonest its use normally is now days.
It is great news that leftists are trotting out this “racism” canard”–it means they have nothing left, and they know it–but what they don’t seem to realize is that the canard is less than nothing. To think that these genuises actually though harping on Joe Wilson would help them ram Obamacare through. Instead, they’re making this look like Al Sharpton’s first term. I didn’t in my wildest dreams think I’d be enjoying this Administration so much.
Why anybody takes that man seriously evades my comprehension. To call him disgraceful is to indulge in charity. Commentators on this thread who would defend him share in the miserable opprobrium. Vivacious distractions by ignorant trolls only add to the affront that all patriots must suffer while that most shameful of ex Presidents continues to inhale what is left in this country of the atmosphere of responsible civic freedom and in his turn exhales treachery.
it is both laughable that Carter takes himself seriously and even more so that the press does.
if it was Carter giving the speech Joe might have called out “you’re stupid”
Carter …I hope the cheque from the Arabs doesn’t bounce. go away.
…and still more laughable that a troll defends carter. some people shouldn’t post
vivo @ 71 states, “President Carter knows. He’s a damn southerner and lives among those folks.”
The only thing Carter lives among are his own delusions.
Delia @ 67:
The problem with most of the folks you name is they are so busy killing each other for the crumbs on the floor they fail to realize an honest working person has bought the rest of the loaf and is walking off with it.
As usual the opponents of any kind of restriction on the illegal immigration, is playing the race card? It’s a forgone conclusion that the benefactors of promoting a mass invasion of our shores, such as religious groups, unions, ACLU, radical ethnic caucuses and even our own US Chamber of Commerce, will mouth epithets that doesn’t benefit big business, that doesn’t advocate a continuous force of illegal cheap labor. Now they are really livid because their objection to E-Verify was thrown out of court. Now all federal contractors and subcontractors must adhere to the law. They have conspired against the American worker and people for too long, and now we are fighting back ourselves against corrupt politicians and other elected officials nationwide,
Rep.Joe Wilson was actually telling the truth at the time, and now Democrats have placed restrictive language in the Health care reform package as a reluctant afterthought by public demand. This was nothing to do about bigotry or racism, but the American workers and family survival. None of the business community who hire them wants their labor, but forces the taxpayer to carry the financial load. The US labor force should not have to be in competition, with people from other countries. Businesses have already offshore American jobs, because it’s cheaper? So every illegal foreign national and family member should be exempt from government run health care, jobs and all the billions of taxpayer dollars secretly allocated to pay for their support. Twenty million plus illegal people compromised themselves, when they entered a sovereign nation without permission. Find out the truth at NUMBERSUSA, JUDICIAL WATCH and contact your politician at 202-224-3121 demanding no weakening conditions to E-Verify or any other law authored by Congress.
#71 vivo…You are an idiot. I have lived in every region of this country, and I’m afraid to say, I had a similar attitude of the south as you before being transferred to a Fla/Ala coastal town in the mid 90′s. Everything I had read or saw in movies was the complete opposite of what the south actually turned out to be. Sure, there are more churches than other regions of the country, but they lived their lives, and I lived mine.
Also, there were plenty of inter-racial couples where the locals did not blink an eye at it because the area had moved on from their prejudices.
Unfortunately today we have people like Rev. Wright, and the elite media still living in the 60′s, and only perpetuate the problem. BTW.. I do not recall a single racial incident occuring in the six years I lived in the town, and the white/black mix was 75/25.
Of course, this is the type of demonizing of the south you would expect from elitist like Chris Matthews, and snobs like you..
Everything about the Democrat party is divisive, whether it be race or class warfare. It keeps them in business along with MSM propping them up all the time.
Pick up and read the book ‘White Guilt’ by Shelby Steele, and stop being a race hustler like Al Sharpton.
Jimmy’s book says:
“In 1938 Joe Louis fought Max Schmeling.
My father invited the black folk from across the railroad tracks to hear the fight on our radio.”
What Jimmy doesn’t tell you is that his father didn’t allow the black folk to sit in his chairs, use the bathroom,
or drink out of the water dipper.
But the black folk had a great time standing outside,
cupping their ears trying to listen to the fight on the radio.
Y’all come back now you hear!
I’m not really completely down with Jimmy Carter’s assessment here, although I can see what he’s seeing: the right wing got really <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjvNSpsPu1k"dumbass-nasty with Obama really quickly, and the GOP in general has been acting like really bitter, really poor losers, and not even pretending to want to be helpful or constructive.
To me, Joe Wilson’s heckling (by the way, some right numbnuts having been claiming that Pete Stark did the same to Bush, but no — while he did correctly refer to Bush’s lying, he never heckled while Bush was making a speech), is just basically the same old, same old GOP stuff>/a> (note how that grossly delayed Phase II report support the “other” Joe Wilson), and I don’t really see anything all that special here.
Since Congress is into banning words, how about banning “racist”? The word has absolutely no meaning anymore. It is only a cowardly, anti-intellectual means of stifling opposition.
Carter is just sad – just utterly classless.
Obama’s people scream racism all week yet all that happened was some poor white kid got his brains beat out by a bunch of black racist hoodlums.
How do I contact Jimmy Carter?
53. lefroy:
(I exempt the UK – like every other country it has its racists but the point is, racism is not shamelessly institutionalized like it is just about everywhere else).
~~~~~
I was on a group with a Brit living in Scotland who would strongly disagree with you on that.
One further comment on European discrimination between themselves – in a German class, we had textbooks that were printed *in* Germany. We did make note of the fact that on the *GERMAN* produced European map, Switzerland did not appear. One could argue, well, it’s a small country, and they didn’t want to bother. (even though parts speak something some call German.). Since Lichstenstein *was* on the map, and is even smaller, that theory is blown. (So was Belgium.)
But it did put the prof’s experience with a Swiss hostlier, after making phone reservations, in a whole new light. When she checked in and presented her passport, she got a “You’re an *American*. We thought you were a German. We’ll get you a better room.”
Peanuts is in desperate need of Obamacare.
(Plug him into an I.V. and sedate him . . . like in Merry Old England.)
Let’s just be NICE to him . . . .
I guess Jimmy Carter is still alive. I wasn’t sure…….
67. Delia, I think Obama did have his internal dialog on race, and Daddy won. Some feminists have suggested that his identification with his father and hatred for his mother is rooted in misogyny, but that’s probably got the cause-and-effect backward. Why do you suppose he sought Michelle out?
A roomful of non-PC shrinks could have a field day discussing that.
I know a rabbit that’s been asking the same question.
“President Carter knows. He’s a damn southerner and lives among those folks. It’s like asking a Mexican if he understands Spanish . . .”
Feh, that’s the best you got vivo? Lame.
I’m Southern and that dumb ass anti Semite is nothing like the typical educated Southerner, he’s merely a typical race baiting white trash liberal.
#92 tedders…Jimmy reminds me of another kook leftist southerner by the name of Ted Turner. Like Jimmy, he seems to have no problem with commies or terrorist groups, and has a deep-seated hatred for jews and christians.
Perhaps they just want to fit in with the elitist leftist crowd from NYC or SNob Hill in San Francisco, but who knows. I have seen Ted Turner in a couple of interviews in the last year, and am convinced he is more scary than George Soros.
Well, according to the WaPo today, Obama says (via Gibbs) the criticism of him is not based on racism. So we are faced with the following dilemma. Which statement is true?
1) Obama is lying
2) Obama is telling the truth, in which case his supporters crying ‘rascism’ are lying, and are in fact racists, since disagreeing with the Won, acording to the current Leftie gospel, is sooooo racist.
Hmmmm, interesting conundrum….
(Of course, the above only applies if the WaPo isn’t making stuff up, and Gibbs isn’t just being his usual incompetent self.)
Two points,
1. Jimmy Carter is a practiced antisemite. He knows the mindset that is required to engage in racist thought and probably has a certain amount of guilt that he projects because he knows in his heart how a bigot thinks, being one himself.
2. Blaming Obamas failures and sinking poll numbers on racism is going to backfire on the liberals. The repeated use of the term is deadening it’s impact, innoculating people from it’s true meaning and true ugly history. Continually crying “racism” when an event involving a minority occurs renders the term less meaningful and deemphasizes the impact of true racist behavior.
The President would be smart to condemn pejorative use of the term when his policies are being debated. Otherwise he may find that swaths of the public become indifferent or resentful of the repeated use of the term when it seems innappropriate or inaccurate. Many white independent voters are going to resent being accused of racism when they hear what they percieve as valid criticism of the President’s policies, and hear it condemned as racist. Many of those people voted for Obama.
Vivo, oh dear vivo. You’ve slurred an entire region and it’s people. So, your personal experience in the region, is now in play. Do tell us where you’ve lived in the South and for how long. What entitles you, in your experience to pass judgment on whole region and its people? My goodness, I sure hope you have some experience in the region that might explain your slur. If not, you’ve just hung a sign around your neck that says, “I’m a bigot.”
To all commentators on this and future threads: I move that unless vivo adequately explains him/herself, for the slurs cast, that vivo henceforth and forever after, in this and all future threads, be referred to as “vivo the bigot”.
Racism is locking a powerless class of people into a welfare system. Racism is creating and perpetuating a never ending victim mentality upon this powerless class of people by self serving politicians who don’t give a damn about anything except being re-elected by these people. Racism is rewarding failure and discouraging success. Racism is creating a entitlement mindset in the minds of the powerless so as to benefit politically. Racism is sending the message to the powerless that they are too dumb, and/or too lazy to be successful by themselves and that government is their only salvation.
Martin Luther King did have a dream. And I guarantee you the big government America of 2009 isn’t the dream he had in mind. And politicians will keep exploiting it as long as the votes keep rolling in.
Some of my best friends are black. Some of my best friends are white. I don’t like hip-hop, but then I don’t like classical music either.
Racism is a matter of taste or inclination that has gotten out of hand. The ability to not feel strongly will take care of racism and its corollaries. Very few things make much difference in the long term and we actually cannot tell what they are in the beginning. Children left to their own devices and older folks passed most of their testosterone get along pretty darn well no matter what their background – as long as there is a place they can interact.
In Carter’s case regarding racism, an aphorism of my childhood returns to mind: He who smelt it, dealt it.
“How do I contact Jimmy Carter?”
My God, why would any sane person want to?
The luxury that black racists have must be wonderful. Just imagine being able to blame everything bad, real or imagined, that ever happened to you on some one else! Got arrested, got fired, didn’t get a diploma, don’t speak/read/write well, got criticized or, WHATEVAH! It is all whiteys’ fault and none of my own!
Chimpy the Kenyan got elected because of racism. If he wasn’t black, he wouldn’t be President!! Liberals and the captive media were some charmed by a clean, articulate black that they voted for him just to stick it to whitey.
This exercise should help point out the black racism of folks like Sharpton and Waters who claim the ’70s position that only whites can be racists. No! Black racists are as bad as white racists. Members of the black congressional caucus are the same as the klan!
Rod Dreher @ 34:
Yeah, those NBP in Philly saying what they said was just the kidz freakin’ on the locals, right? Those 20 years of J. Wright BLT hate sermons? The same? Just gettin’ his freak on? Skip Gates? More of the same?
Whites did not ask for this crap to be visited on the country but it keeps getting shoved down our throats. After decades of this crapola we do not have a right to say so? Is Limbaugh so wrong? Is opposition to BHO’s politics and policies now to really be considered racism?
You, sir, are just disingenuous. And then you self censor to protect yourself from being called out as a racist? How can we defend a negative? We cannot. So, you know what? Want to label me a racist? Have at it and I will wear the label proudly if it comes from the likes of you, Rod. Blacks are expected to be proud of being black but if whites do the same?
0bama is stripping the country of The Constitution and you weak sisters are doing nothing but playing into their arguments and hands. When does this stop?
This from the naval guy who mistook the planet Venus for a UFO?
Comment 17 by keith, typical deflection, using talking points, by an uninformed lemming who can’t write.
I thought all you libs were college grads.
Jimmuh was Prez when I was a young airman in the USAF. Fortunately, for us, he was replaced by a man who revered and respected the military.
Carter, Kennedy, no difference. Two kooks who accomplished very little in their lives…
And now even Obama himself smacked down Carter for that comment: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32869276/ns/politics-capitol_hill/
As Bugs Bunny would have said of Carter, “What an ultra-maroon”
Ah, yer thinkin’ wicher DIPstick, Jimmy!
Dear Liberals,
Please be advised that your Race Card account has been closed. This decision was based on your account history of excessive over-limit spending. Please destroy your card immediately as it will no longer be honored.
Sincerely,
The American People
Redchief, as someone whose family has *really* lived in SC for over 250 years, I call bullshit. Not even my total-racist George Wallace-voting grandfather ever did anything so silly. And when was the last time Lincoln was on a stamp? 1964?
Now tedders, you are being an uppity Johnny Reb again. Look out that Sheriff vivo doesn’t call for massive reinforcements so he can arrest you for reckless eyeballing.
Who are the REAL racists well for a start the 96% of Blacks who voted in a BLATANT Racist way for the Obamanation, then there is the Obamanation HIMSELF and his buddy GATES who acted and spoke in a BLATANTLY Racist way about the White Cop. Then there is the Attorney General Holder who in a RACIST way called most Americans COWARDS then there is the Racist Obama’s Racist appointee Van Jones an avowed Racist and Communist then there is Sotomayor who claims to be so much WISER than white men the RACIST. Want more there are lots lots more.
Not forgetting of course Eric Holders RACIST so called Justice Department refusing to prosecute the BLATANTLY Racist Black panthers for Racist voter intimidation.
Last year well BEFORE the gullible,hysterical, emotional, brainwashed American public irrationally and stupidly voted for the Obamanation Rush Limbaugh said “Just wait until things start to go against the LIAR Messiah then all the vermin will crawl out from beneath their rocks and scream RACIST”. How right he was and how predictable left wing PC MC Islamophile ‘libtard’ moonbats are.
#34 Rod Dreyer now please tell us what the MSM would have been saying had the roles been reversed and a Black Kid had been mercilessly beaten not once but multiple times while a whole Bus full of white kids cheered and hollered and encouraged the perpetrator. You pathetic ‘libtards’ can only see racism in ‘whitey’ cant you and that in itself is RACIST. BTW statistically Blacks are TEN TIMES more violent than whites but hey thats just a statistic isn’t it just ignore it they cant be racist that label is reserved for ‘whitey’ alone. Must be them rebelling against all the RACIST Affirmative Action advantages they get hey.
“Everything I had read or saw in movies was the complete opposite of what the south actually turned out to be.”
I agree with your observations about the South. I lived there too. If you read carefully what I wrote @71, you will notice that I’m not demonizing the whole South, just the culprits.
92. tedders:
“I’m Southern and that dumb ass anti Semite is nothing like the typical educated Southerner,”
Carter knows who you are, I know how you feel. Sorry.
Odysseus,
How about not engaging Vivo, BC, Moho, Now and Then and the other Marxist fellow travelers? Their adolescent drivel isn’t worth reading, let alone replying to.
These people believe in an ideology that produces economic failure and misery in every country that has attempted to employ it. Despite those facts the Marxists persist in advocating for its implementation. They will employ the dialectic to lie and bully until they get what they want.
I say stop engaging the trollkins. I learned it ain’t worth it. Let them wallow in their miseducation and frustration by themselves.
“Martin Luther King did have a dream. And I guarantee you the big government America of 2009 isn’t the dream he had in mind.”
You are unfortunately incorrect. Martin Luther King, Jr. was an adamant socialist. He also advocated for racial preferences. MLK was also more useful to the left at the time of his murder as a martyr than as a live human being. He was perceived by most Americans to be too extreme.
Just re-reading Vivian Gornick’s 1977 book, “The Romance of American Communism” wherein she quotes one Eric Lanzetti quoting Lenin on the use of the smear a la Jimmy Carter. Lanzetti says Lenin used it as a deliberate tactic, quoting Lenin, “I purposely choose that tone calculated to evoke in the hearer hatred, disgust and contempt . . . That tone, that formulation, is not designed to convince but to break the ranks, not to correct a mistake of the opponent but to annihilate him to wipe him off the face of the earth.” Jimmy and the rest of the left/liberal/Democrats racist-flingers are just being good Leninists.
Threatenig us with racism card
According to the left, any stand against the policies of a leftist black president is racist and should cease. According to the left only those who agree with that leftist black president have a legitimate right to speak, and those who don’t are wicked and do not have the same right.
Which means that you are trying to impose a leftist dictatorship over us, a dictatorship enforced by the charge of racism. Do you expect us not to notice this obvious threat?
What the left is doing now is so outrageous that maybe the conservatives are finally starting to wake up.
As always, Republicans and conservatives defend themselves from absurd charges of racism, thus validating their legitimacy, instead of putting the left on the defensive for using such charges in the first place.
Such hopeless stupidity on the part of conservatives has long made me despair. But what the left is doing now is so outrageous that maybe the conservatives are finally starting to wake up.
Perhaps it’s time for a poll: Is Obama lying when he said it was not a racist remark, or is Carter lying when he says it was?
Opinions are like noses, everyone has one and they all smell.
Not being a mind reader, I can’t judge Wilson. There’s nothing in his words that would lead me to believe it was racially motivated. If racist now means opposed, what do we call real racism?
It’s interesting that those who attempt to tie Wilson to racism using some association with some Confederate organization will give Robert Byrd a pass on his KKK membership.
Thinking is hard. That’s why we don’t see much of it.
Jimmy Carter, the Grinning Idiot from Plains Georgia. Failure as President, embarassment as ex-President.
Jimmuh cannot erase the failure of his four years in the White House. He should have stuck to building outhouses. Every time he opens his mouth he reinforces his image as a doddering, senescent senior.
The State of Georgia apologizes for birthing this meddlesome, peanut-brained mutant.
VIVO:
You are a moron. Nothing personal.
Vivo is a bigot and he is from the South, that’s why he believes all in the South to be bigots. Classic projection.
@Rod, you intentionally ignore Rush’s comments regarding Newsweek basically telling us that Whites are born racist. Irrational hatred has no relation to skin color, your comments show us just how marginal you and others like you are. It must pain you to know that you are a minority, not because of the color of your skin, but because of your progressive liberal beliefs. The vast majority of Americans are in fact conservative regardless of skin color or party affiliation who believe in family values, God, and the virtues of hard work and self discipline.
Jimmy is only interested in personal wealth and his ‘legacy’. It’s too bad that rabbit didn’t get him. How Rickover ever let this human stain into the nuclear navy is a compete mystery. Every time he opens his mouth he reinforces his image as a fool. Georgia, I love your peaches, and Vidalia onions. This ex-peanut farmer besmirches your great state.
Have any of you people been in the south lately? There are people who won’t carry a five dollar bill, because it bears the image of Lincoln.
Yes I LIVE in the south and this is the stupidest statement I have read here today.
Somebody grins like they just got caught masturbating behind the peanut picker.
Samizdat,
I actually agree with you, and by pointing to the bigotry that lies on, or close to, the surface of commentators like vivo, it’s my hope that more folks will see engagement with them for the sucker’s game that it is. But, folks should also view them as an example _not_ to be emulated whatever their point of view. *Preaching done*
it is usually the racist that slings the “race card”. no one needs to say it when it is real racism …it is painfully obvious and needs no mention.
but jimmy the peanut and obama the narcissist throw the term around as part of their political worldview.
there was absolutely nothing in Joe Wilson’s remarks that lead us to believe his two words were a racists remark. Nothing.
.Those of you that say different are liars. Liars. You’re not exaggerating, you’re lieing.
the KKK was “invented”..by the Dems in the 1800′s. It’s their baby, they need to own it…just as segregation, “colored entrance” , etc., Byrd and Jimmy. Maybe the blacks of this country need to learn a little history.
So if the KKK puts on the white hoods and marches, lift up those hoods and see Dems.
It seems like Obama and friends want a “race war” so they can step in with martial law. They’re just nutty enough to do something like that.
Poor Jimmy. He’s just acting like a democrat, what else can we expect.
I have been saying for a long time that the protesters need to go after the ‘old media’, and embarrass the heck out of them. They have been the propaganda arm for the Democrat party for several decades.
And you will also find that GE owned NBC/MSNBC as the ring leader with the media playing the race card.
members of the House may still “challenge the President on matters of policy” but are henceforth forbidden to
* call the President a “liar.”
* call the President a “hypocrite.”
* describe the President’s veto of a bill as “cowardly.”
* charge that the President has been “intellectually dishonest.”
* refer to the President as “giving aid and comfort to the enemy.”
* refer to alleged “sexual misconduct on the President’s part.”
This muzzling of Representatives is Unconstitutional and dictatorial.
Jimmy- I never met a dictator that I didn’t like- Carter has been seriously engaged in destroying the free world, along with his buddy Michael Moore. So, please leave them alone, very very alone.
So it’s OK to still refer to him as ‘that schmuck’?
This is a dangerous time. Hundreds of thousands of ordinary Americans did what they had always been told to do; speak to their Representatives in August and petition the Government as they did on 9/12.
And for that they are called “Evil”, “Un-American” and Racist. The Government and MSNBC talk of disaffected Veterans as potential terrorists and invoke the name of Tim McVeigh strike. They are trying discredit the opposition and set the mood for a strong Government crack down.
How will the American people re-act then?
Jimmy lectures us on racism. And we should listen why?
Because of his wonderful one-term presidency, I guess. Ah, yes, the Carter years.
• Double-digit unemployment
• Double-digit inflation
• Double-digit interest rates
• The Iran hostage crisis, lasting 444 days
• A depleted military
• A hostage rescue attempt that ended with our helicopters burning in the desert
• An energy crisis with soaring gas prices
• Gas rationing with lines that stretched around the block to fill your tank
• Things were so bad, the media actually invented the Misery Index
Good times!
PS: After his presidency, he was Bill Clinton’s envoy to North Korea and wound up giving them the nuclear technology they now use to produce nuclear weapons. What a guy! Doncha just love him? Please, Jimmy, lecture us some more on racism.
Funny you should mention Joe McCarthy. Has anyone bothered to read the Ann Coulter writings about him? I know, she’s the person you love to hate most. But, does that mean you are willing to put your head in the sand and your ass up in the air? That’s a good way to get your proverbials damaged, isn’t it?
So, take a listen. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, it seems that historians have gained access to some of the KGB files. Turns out that the people McCarthy accused of being fifth-columnists for the Soviets were, in fact, paid agents of the KGB. Maybe it’s time to revisit some of the twentieth century “history” we have all been spoon fed for so many decades. We might just discover intellectual dishonesty in places we never expected to discover it. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like being lied to!
Some people are so blinded by their emotions that they can’t see the truth in front of their faces. Carter is one such. The rest we call librulz.
““There are many people in this country who don’t think a black man has the right to be president” – how can you argue that?”
I’ll argue that. (1) We have a half-black man for our President. (2) The head of the Republican National Committee is a black man.
QED
I am not against the Obamanation because he is black but because he is RED.
It not his pigmentation that offends me its his policies.
In my editorial on SpecialOpsAndNews.com I point out that Carter’s “racism” remarks, indeed, all of the liberal “racism” comments, are meant to distract the American people from the fact that the Obama health care bill is dying a slow death – losing Barry a lot of political clout in the process. His approval rating is down to 47%.
” The symbolism of a Strom Thurmond political underling boorishly calling the first black president a liar (particularly on something Obama DIDN’T lie about) carries way much more political weight.”
This is a pathetic comment. O is extremely manipulative with language (or at least his script writers are). Liberals can’t see it because they love the sound of the words. I am not deluded into thinking I can change your mind and will not attempt to.
It will become painfully obvious to you and your kind in due time.
Rod Dreher, although I understand your point of view, I don’t believe you live in the real world. As for Limbaugh, I do believe you take his comment out of context, but will have to defer that judgement since I haven’t heard it personally.
Be a victim of Black on White violence and see how it’s characterized.
Just the facts Ma’am.
These allegations of racism remind me of the story of the boy who cried wolf. As Hook more eloquently stated, the more this charge is wrongfully levied, the less its impact will be. Soon the allegation of racism will mean nothing at all.
This “racism” business is not off-the-cuff idiocy by a deranged anti-semite and supporter of terrorism, it is a planned and orchestrated campaign to radicalize the American electorate and incite political violence.
By morphing political dissent into racism it makes hatred of political opponents not only acceptable but lauditory, thereby radicalizing Democrats. It also provokes a strong backlash among dissenters, thereby radicalizing conservatives.
Violence is certain to follow.
The next demonstation in Washington will surely be larger and angrier than the last. Radicalized leftists will show up, shots will be fired and the ball will be rolling. Dissenters will be “enemies of the people” and everyday Democrats will cheer their incarceration. The American Republic will collapse as darkness descends on the continent.
Jimmy Carter knows exactly what he’s doing.
Mr. Obama nods in agreement.
“So it’s OK to still refer to him as ‘that schmuck’?”
Both ‘schmuck’ and POS are on the approved list, while ‘Mack Daddy’ and ‘Commie Pimp’ are still in commitee awaiting a final decision.
The use of traditional democrat affectionate names are always acceptable, so if you like you may continue to use “the soul of the Senate” Sen. Byrd’s trademark, “pickaninny” for the children and “White Nigger” could be applied to the Caucasian members of the administration. Naturally, you’ll want to have someone like your local democrat KKK official at your side to assure his fellow democrats that it’s in no way racist to use such terms since Byrd has never been censored for doing so.
The House of Representatives has passed something very reminicent of what were known in 19th century Europe as laws of “lese majeste,” that is, laws making it a crime to malign the person of the monarch. In 19th century America, such laws were understood to be utterly incompatible with the consitution of a free republic. In 1798 the Federalists tried to bar criticism of President John Adams by means of the Alien and Sedition Laws in 1798. Jefferson and Madison responded with the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions and Adams lost his reelection bid in 1800. Will the House now enact a sedition law? The Whigs used to lampoon Andrew Jackson as “King Andrew,” and he has no law of lese majeste to stifle them with. Do we now have “King Barack?”
Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy: just when you do something admirable, such as building houses for poor people or help provide clean water for some outcast community in the outreaches of Africa, you do something nit-witted like try and be politically savvy. Remember, a smart man knows his limitations. Don’t forget some of the other brilliant political brain storms you had such as giving the Panama Canal back to a megalomaniac crook who held all the international trade ships hostage for extortionist fees. Then we had to pretend it was the war on drugs so the US could send in its troops to make the canal open to commercial fleets again. Jimmy, don’t sound like the morons who give this shyster lawyer credit for being some sort of messiah. It really denigrates the good works you do. Stick to being Mr. Helping Hand Nice Guy and don’t tread onto the political stage, otherwise you just sound like another fool who goes off half-cocked in support of a corrupt narcissist. Okay?
Georgia’s very own grinning eunuch. I met the guy and his wife. Putz.
Roger, Roger, Roger…
“This is the lesson we should all have learned from the days of Senator Joseph McCarthy”
The only problem is, McCarthy was dead-on correct. Check you facts pal. Do you actually read history?
Using this quote in this context is categorically proven to be a false analogy in the aftermath of the fall of the iron curtain.
“The only problem is, McCarthy was dead-on correct.”
Have you no sense of decency, sir?
I am so damn ashamed I actually voted for that SOB in 1976. What a disgusting lying sack of dung the man is.
“Have you no sense of decency, sir?”
I like it !!! LOL, I get it. N&T talking about decency. How’d you steal his name to sneak that joke in?
96. Odysseus:
“Do tell us where you’ve lived in the South and for how long. What entitles you, in your experience to pass judgment on whole region and its people?”
Alabama, 3 yrs. Atlanta, Charleston, Miami, New Orleans, Memphis, others. U didn’t read well what I wrote. I didn’t say all Southerners. Learn how to read. Talking to people there entitles me. They let you know things. I don’t BS with you guys, just learn how to read well.
121. carla:
Hello moronita. Nothing personal.
When I vote to send someone to Congress to represent me, I expect them to speak their minds when they get there. If I don’t like what they say, often enough, then I don’t vote for them again.
But I sure as heck don’t expect them to be muzzled by a bunch of folks who were sent there by someone else.
Any Congress-critter that follows these restrictions is failing to perform their job, and is morally and ethically unfit to be a representative.
Roger ..great writing but lose the bow tie.
VIVO:
Really good stuff. Witty repartee. You momma would be proud. Have you ever had a chromosone scsan. Think about it. You’re bush league.
Jimmy Carter was, is and will always be an idiot. He was one of the most incompotent presidents (barring the present president) ever. He should keep his own racist remarks to himself, you see it takes a racist to know one. The only part that is true in regards to Jimmy “Idiot” Carter is that he is a guilt ridden racist himself. Until people quit using race as an excuse for everything there will always be a divide. Let people raise there kids with the understanding that it is a skin pigmentation that makes us different, we all want what is best for our children so all you racists let it go, deal with the issues and quit making excuses.
