The followers of Senator Obama have that evanescent quality that is necessary in any successful political campaign; they believe in the righteousness of their cause.
However, righteousness is like a strong night of drinking. While the euphoria is grand, the headache and hangover the next morning tends to make you say “never again”. If Senator Obama is elected in 2008, I think by 2012, we may have a large part of a new generation saying to themselves, “Never again”.
As has been said somewhere before, we seem to read the lessons of history better after we have fallen on our faces.
It would be unfortunate for Sen. McCain to die on that hill so that the country learns a lesson by electing someone as green and unqualified as Sen. Obama, but someother candidate in 2012 will probably benefit from this.
