Fred, I agree with you completely. It is shameful and sad that the nation is shattering into just such “social fragments” as you put it. I have nothing against white males either, goodness knows, and would be fine with Romney, Thompson or Giuliani as the VP. But all three would probably increase the likelihood of McCain losing.

We agree that a female running mate is tactically smart for McCain. Sadly, he needs to “sexy” up his campaign to garner a certain percentage of stupid people who will vote based on novelty or some kind of absurd gender allegiance.

In any case, even if McCain wins, I suspect this is the last time Republicans will take the Presidency. The country has bolted to the Left these past eight years. Unless McCain can somehow be a Reagan-style revitalizing figure, I think the future is ever Leftward. Of course, the media is a huge part of this. No matter what happens in the economy, for example, it will be painted as terrible if McCain wins. If Obama wins, before he’s even sworn in the economic news will magically be rosy.

My biggest hope about a President McCain is that he can be an ornery bastard, and I don’t think he’ll sit back and let the Left demolish him with lies they way they’ve done to Bush. He will kick back. My McCain fantasy has him prosecute the press the next time it leaks government info on his watch. My fantasy also has McCain cleaning house at CIA and State and the other Lefty bastions in DC the first time they cross him (which will be about a month before he takes office).

On the other hand, it’s far more likely he will run after the press adulation he’s so used to, and he will move ever Leftward himself. Needless to say, the press will hate him no matter how much he offers them. Trying to placate them as a Republican is a fool’s game, but it’s a game too many Republicans are addicted to. McCain I fear is among them.
