If Cornel West were the only con-man (pardon: con-person) in academe that would be nice. But he’s not and it’s not. As David Horowitz’ latest bating of the eminently bateable world of American academe demonstrates, colleges in certain departments are loaded with people like him. That their colleagues in other departments take them seriously (if they didn’t they would know that their own credibility as faculty at their own institution is at state) is indicative of just how bad things are in academe. I watched before retiring in 2001 the evolution of this act of professional self-destruction close up and person.
