Wretchard, I think it is Harvard Law School for which the letter would have been written. I am pretty sure that making Law review is largely a function of grades and academic performance after being accepted. I don’t think this is the kind of thing for which a recommendation letter is written. It makes more sense to me that Sutton wrote a letter to the admissions committee or to some colleagues at Harvard that he thought might have some pull. If so, nothing the least bit unusual. What I find intriguing is the hyperbolic language Sutton claims to have used, i.e. referring to Obama as a “genius.” It makes me think that Sutton didn’t only take Mansour’s advice, he al$o li$tended to it.
