Subotai (#5) nailed my confusion almost exactly. Obama confuses me. He acts completely opposite domestically – where he seems to revel in “I won” arrogance – and diplomatically, where he behaves like a cringing nerd who fears being beaten up for his lunch money. And Subotai is right in that “fear” explains the evidence, but somehow I don’t think it really is “fear” that explains his behavior. I don’t know what it is, however. Guys who really get off on Power, like Obama, seem to like to exercise it everywhere, and Chicago politics should have certainly been a graduate-level course in the exercise of power. It’s more like O is extrapolating victimology politics to the rest of the world, and he’s trying to build a constituency, just like he did back in the Community. And it’s not working. The world ain’t his homies, and they’re laughing at him. More than a few are probably noodling over when might be a good time to try their next drive-by.
