Sometimes I wish I’d never heard of the Bible. For the life of me, I could never search the ‘scriptures’ hoping to find what may happen, say, a week from next Tuesday. Seems to me prophecy is basically a system of metaphors in which a vaguely remembered better – man finding himself at the bottom of a U shaped curve – is desired to be recovered, maybe even surpassed, by a better or even best in the future, which future might even be thought of as a possible state of mind.
