If you need an example, fedya, Kaczynski’s blast (see my post just above yours) is the perfect revelation of that void between market & state. The Pole understands who is and who isn’t on the front line, and he knows they know it to. Protocol would advise him to keep his mouth shut, in public at least. But he didn’t. Instead he gave it to ‘em with both barrels, and let the chips fall where they may. This “I can’t be bought–can YOU?” is no longer implied by embarrassed obfuscation and euphemism but is now an outright clear-as-day question. “Choose” indeed. The hinge of history turns.
