The wall-to-wall outpouring of grief is disgusting. It’s almost a commonplace, but when someone of Jackson’s celebrity stature dies, you can count on your local TV news devoting their entire broadcasts to “reactions” from those who “care.” The rest of us can’t even get a weather forecast because of it. But I was further sickened by the fact that Fox News’ Special Report devoted its entire hour to helicopter vigils and photo/video retrospectives – and of course “reactions.” I doubt Brit Hume, were he still the adult in charge, would have permitted this. What I would have paid to hear Krauthammer’s observations on sentimentality of the spectacle.
