Whether intentional or not, this is a direct strike against the morale of our troops. Why go to all the effort of capturing Tangoes if they’ll be traded for a bag of bones? If on the other hand, Tangoes are shot out of hand that is a war crime. This places our troops in a double bind: either capture, knowing that it is for naught, or shoot, and be prosecuted. Before you say “it can’t happen here” google Lt Col Chessani, Haditha Marines, or Lt Michael Behenna. It is a simple and very very powerful blow that degrades our combat effectiveness without a shot being fired.
