I love this paragraph – from near the end of the W. Post editorial:
“When we look overseas for support, we are confronted by the Americans demanding that we oppose the Taliban even as U.S. drones continue to kill impoverished civilians in the remote-controlled hunt for Taliban officials and the latest al-Qaeda No. 3. There is not a single Pakistani who supports these attacks or the way they are being conducted. They have made being pro-American radioactive. And they have also made opposing the Taliban that much more difficult.”
What a wonderful illustration of the problem: because the civilians hanging around the Taliban when they get Hellfire’d are “innocent,” we cannot possibly resist the Taliban if they Americans tell us we ought to. O woe, whatever are we to do, we simple Pakistanis? Won’t somebody help us?
What a bunch of bullsh-t. Pakistan’s problem is Pakistanis and their cousins the barbarians. Where can we start writing op-eds of that variety: Your Problem Is You.
