Because of language, and educational background difficulties they often must work twice as hard to contribute their share to the project they work on. One of the most difficult things in high tech seems to be interfacing with the customer and discerning (sometimes it seems like magic) what they really want, as opposed to what they ask for. Most immigrant engineers and scientists who speak English as a second language exacerbate this problem mightily.
