I agree with Currier. And Iraq itself was only a follow-on from the modern era’s biggest American gaffe –invading western Europe in 1944. Had we respected Nazi sovereignty, then the poor misunderstood Russians would not have been forced to invade, rape, murder, subvert, subdue, occupy, oppress & exploit a dozen or so eastern & central European nations in order to, without the slightest shred of conscience, visit a half century of poverty, shame, dread, and dead-end misery on one hundred million innocent bystanders.
