Glenn: The allegory of the comic strip superhero is the excuse many people need to avoid confronting things that need to be confronted in society. Batman or Superman or Zorro or whoever will rescue you so you can continue your feckless ways.

That reminds me of Reagan’s Secretary of the Interior James Watt, who was willing to rape our national resources to the max, since the “rapture” was coming in 1988 anyway, when Jesus was supposed to come down and save us all like Superman.
