Honest Joe provides good links to Saudi complicity in anti-US terrorism. Why, then, did the US invade Iraq? The result of the invasion provides the rationale, does it not? Sunni-AQ supporters in the Mideast find themselves to a great extent in disarray, dillusioned, decimated, dishonored. Shia extremists, ditto, especially in Iraq. In retrospect, hitting the Sunni-Islamist fellow-traveller Iraq, a weak link, broke two impressive chains. The chains may re-link. But surely one cannot seriously ask why we attacked Iraq. It was the weak link.
