The story of HMS Hood is still fascinating: one of the most interesting things I ever read was the account of one of the three Hood survivors (I think a Midshipman, but not sure) who escaped out a bridge window. He had enough time to hear somebody report steering failure, (rear part of the vessel where the explosion was) to hear Captain Kerr order a switch to emergency steering…then everything came apart. He got out a bridge window behind somebody else — but he made it, and the other guy didn’t.
