Cannoneer,
I know. The Obama threat is unfolding in such a creepy way – the media, the financial crisis, the propaganda (original thread here). It’s easy to get a bit carried away.
This country was born and baptized in blood. That makes political violence all the more charged with a downright mystical taboo. Before we even talk about it we have to be really, really, really sure about it.
In October, 1860 the issue was slavery. It was right out in front for everybody to see. The whole country talked about it and everybody knew where they stood. One half of the country was terrified that the other half was going to intervene in their affairs.
In October, 2008 the issue is Obama the cipher. We certainly have plenty of hints of what he portends, but nothing certain. We have not had the national conversation about socialism.
Don’t you see the parallels? Storm-Rider, Habu and others would cast us as the confederates. Only, in this case we are reacting to shadows of what might be.
The only thing, other than drinking a little more Georgian wine, is to get off of our asses and get to work. Turn an Obama supporter around. Tell them about CRA, Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac, tell them about Bill Ayers.
We can’t just give up on them because they don’t read the Belmont Club. The media isn’t telling them the story. We have to.
The media bias has become so palpable it is obvious to see. It is our job to point it out to our fellow Americans.
This is Churchill’s fight. To mobilize our side and elect the least worst candidate, John McCain.
