Read the original article from Foreign Policy on the deep background to the Petraeus testimony to Congress his written testimony and his verbal testimony. The written testimony is much more outspoken

General Petraeus said what he said and meant what he said to Congress and the Troops and people in the ” flyover states” heard his message and understood it.
Later AIPAC attacked him and Petraeus ” cooled the mark out” he is a smart warrior.
In the US we have a long history of integrating immigrants who had been at each others throats for generations in their home countries.
We achieved this through the policy of E Puribus Unum.
Since the 60s and the influence of the New Left we have let this powerful policy slide—it is time to build it up again in all our institutions– particularly our schools K12 and our Universities.
Europe and particularly England made a much worse job of it since the 60s– they adopted a failed and flawed policy of multiculturalism. They now face the prospect of “Rivers of Blood” Enoch Powell warned about the consequences http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/3643823/Enoch-Powells-Rivers-of-Blood-speech.html .
What we are seeing in Islam now is a war within Global Islam.
Hopefully this will be a prelude to an Age of Enlightenment as occurred in Christian Civilization, balancing Faith with Reason.
The Age of Enlightenment lead to the founding of the USA—but it also led to the horrors of the French Revolution– a nightmare of history from which we have still not full awoken.
The question is– how can we help global Islam follow the American path of enlightenment and avoid the horrors of the Jacobins and their the Reign of Terror in France?
In many ways AQ are the modern Jacobins.
The main thing we must do is get our own house in order and return to the policies of E Pluribus Unum —Never codified by law, E Pluribus Unum was considered a de facto motto of the United States until 1956 when the United States Congress passed an act adopting In God We Trust as the official motto.
Maybe we should have stuck with original motto or at least give them equal weight.
