Koran Non-Burning Day

I do have mixed feelings about not burning the qur’ans. On the one hand, book burning is low brow and makes one think of Nazis. On the other hand, canceling the event sends out the message of “threaten Americans and they’ll back down.”

This last May 20th was the first annual “Draw Mohammad Day”. It was done in response to all of the threats made to the Danish cartoonists, the creators of “South Park”, and the standing threat that anyone, no matter where you live or what your religion is or what the circumstances are… you draw Mohammad, you die.

Draw Mohammad Day was a resounding success. Artists on YouTube, Facebook and DeviantArt all exercised free speech. After all, how could anyone suicide bomb the internet?

Of all the Draw Mohammad day pics, this one is my favorite…

Where would we be if our speech wasn’t free?
