“I have been saying for some time that I think Obama will announce that he is a Muslim sometime after leaving office.”
Andrew X, I share the same gut feeling. And I think it will be staged to look very regal and serene, with the whole family docilely following in a stately, moving ceremony. Is he a Muslim now? Eh, close enough. I think Muslims recognize him as one of their own – he probably made the profession of faith as a boy, which would have sealed his fate. We might think he’s not a very good Muslim, what with his fondness for booze and maybe other proscribed items, but “good” is a relative term in Islam. Advancing Islam makes one a good Muslim; Obama’s “sins” are easily forgiven in exchange for his heroic efforts in advancing THE cause. This is a religion that sanctifies lying to the enemy, after all.
The staged ceremony we talk about will be propaganda, but they will keep up the story that it’s a “conversion” to bamboozle and demoralize the infidels.
What Obama himself thinks about his religious status is probably shifting and unsolid. I suspect that, as he thinks of himself politically as a “citizen of the world”, he believes he can get away with the same nebulous gimmick when it comes to religion. He floats above the earthbound strictures of religion that the “little people” toil under, and probably envies Prince Charles, who came up with the idea of “Defender of Faiths” for his future title. Obama probably sees himself in a similar way, and he’ll probably use some such claptrap to convince the rather redoubtable Michelle to go along with the public performance. “Oh, honey, that’s not going to apply to US!” will be his spiel. And why not? Isn’t that the way things are in Saudi Arabia, where the people at the top (where Obama sees himself permanently ensconced) do as they please?
