51. PA Cat – “Does anyone on the thread have an opinion of General Mattis as Petraeus’s replacement at CENTCOM? Just saw this over at WSJ:”

And

57. Cannoneer No. 4 – “General Mattis would make an outstanding CENTCOM, but SECDEF passed him over for Commandant of the Marine Corps. Does Gates not like Mattis, or was he saving Mattis for this?”

Mattis would be a great choice, for Obama that is, and would fit right in with Obama’s agenda to grind down our military and lose Afghanistan.

He’s no perfumed prince, and up until recently he had an outstanding career, stellar reputation and was universally admired and respected by all ranks. Then he threw it all away and dishonored himself by his shameful actions in the Haditha Marines trials. When Mattis was assigned as presiding officer it was viewed throughout the ranks as a good sign because of his reputation for fairness and honor. That is what made his betrayal of those marines so shocking.

He demonstrated that he’s more than willing to throw his men under the bus to advance his career, so yes, he’s just the type of general Obama needs: a widely accepted public reputation for excellence and integrity (by the uninformed) to give the regime cover, but a deeply flawed character willing to put his career ahead of his men.
