Bill says America is different now: We’re more communitarian.

Yes–and we should realize that the most communitarian places in America are some of our prisons. All for one and one for all in pursuit of the common good–whether the individuals involved like it or not. Of course, some of the collective (like the prisoners who plow the fields–they do this in Texas anyway) are equaler than others (guards vs. inmates for example) and they love you so much that they would rather see you dead than escape from the love.

Yes– let us aspire to make American society more like a prison or a slave plantation. That’s a goal any pompous prison warden or prebellum plantation owner would stand behind.
