That means they were useful once, when dinosaurs ruled the earth. But their time has passed.  Time&amp;#8217;s John Cloud quotes a London School of Economics paper which says there&amp;#8217;s evidence that &amp;#8220;very liberal&amp;#8221; adolescents have an average IQ of 106 and &amp;#8220;very conservative&amp;#8221; kids come in at only 95.  That&amp;#8217;s a major difference. Cloud&amp;#8217;s main doubt about the LSE study is that while there are ways to measure intelligence, there&amp;#8217;s no way to accurately measure &amp;#8220;liberalism&amp;#8221; and &amp;#8220;conservativism&amp;#8221; except by self-identification. So it might just be cool for some people to call themselves liberals because it&amp;#8217;s &amp;#8220;in&amp;#8221;, which might explain some curious things.
