W,

Why do you say may revive sanctions? The article you cite says that the sanctions have already been renewed.

@1. reg:

I wholeheartedly argee, after twenty-five years in law-enforcement I have learned that when crazy people say they are going to do something (no matter how nutty) you should really pay attention.

IMHO the biggest problem that the West has is that we tend to dismiss statements that do not mesh with our world view. At an individual level this can be deadly (witness the sad end of Daniel Pearl) on a national level it can lead to policy failures that have a similar long-term result.

You can almost see the diplomats sitting around, watching video of Ahmanutterjob saying that he has dreams of Israel disappearing in a blinding flash of light, and saying "But what does he REALLY mean?". He really means EXACTLY what he said, they just can't wrap their minds around such an outrageous idea.

Obama is in a similar position, will he believe his prejudices; that everybody really just wants to be reasonable and get along, or will he believe the facts before his eyes, that these people only understand the threat of naked force. The next issue is this; if Obama comes to that realization will he find it in himself act upon it?

Will Damascus believe that the gun pointed at it's head is cocked? or even loaded?

If Syrian nor Iranian leaders are not willing to dance with Obama, they had better be careful to check the dance cards of everyone else at the dance. Iraq may yet be the greater motivation for the people there. Iraq may yet be the promise of what can be in the Middle East and South Asia. I don't think the Mullah's really like the idea, but it is just a thing.

Great piece by Totten.

Ah, yes. The ratline through Syria reopens. Michael J. Totten says we now have "Hezbollah in Iraq" in addition to Al Quaeda in Iraq.

See: http://www.michaeltotten.com/

Looks like that Hope & Change cuts both ways, O.
