I think it is wrong to stop the convention. There are sufficient resources devoted to the storm and there is nothing we can do until the storm leaves.

People paid in time and money to attend this convention to pick the nominee. It is important to the people who do the work of the Party to get this chance for recognition and see all the leaders of the Party.

To cancel this is to disrespect the Republicans who have scrimped and saved and paid for hotels and travel arrangements.

I understand that the President and the VP have other important things to do, but the regular speakers have nothing to do with helping the storm areas. The Governors of those affected states are already staying in their states to manage this.

McCain and Palin do not come in town until Wednesday so why did they cancel the speakers other than the President for Monday? It makes no sense to cancel a convention because of a natural disaster. I guarantee if Gustav were hitting Florida they would not cancel the first day. Florida is used to hurricanes and has dealt with 6 in 4 weeks before. They just went through Fay.

I will not give any notice the scum of Michael Moore.

To me the most interesting aspect of this discussion is the list of leaders entrusted to deal with the situation.

While I don't know much about Crist, I can say that the others are decisive.

I think Michael Moore will be rather disappointed. Short term and long term.

C4,

"<i>Well, I hope the hurricane misses major city areas, that it weakens.</i>"

I with you in that hope. My concern is that the storm tracks I see show the eye of the storm being West of the Katrina track, which would put the most violent part of the storm on the city rather than in Mississippi, where it was for Katrina.

I've seen Mayor Nagin on the tube a couple times and he looks to be leading from out front and shifting his organizational response and tactics as the situation evolves. Good for him!

I'll say it again:

<b>Michael Moore</b> is a <b>bunny murderer</b>. See <i>Roger & Me</i>. All else flows from his gratuitous bunny murdering. It is the window to his soul.

One wonders what the poor people of NOLA are thinking of Mr. Moore's comments. Are they happy to once again be cast into filthy water just so the Democrats can gain votes? Isn't it racist? Why is anyone chuckling along with Mr. Moore as he calls for death and destruction just to help his side win?

If the Republicans do turn their convention into a fund raiser I will actually send some money.. not much.. I got my own problems to attend to and, since I'm white, male and an American, I can expect no help.

Thinking about Wretchard's comment that the worldly Mr Moore, he is larger at the equator than the poles, speaks without thinking. On a prior thread I was commenting on the need for Junior Officers to submit their tactical innovations to the review of their Seniors. That form of discipline, the ability to pause, reflect and then act as in OODA, is a cultural behavior. It is congruent with the value system of Capitalism and Weber's Protestant Ethic. It is Northern European and shared by other highly productive and adaptable cultures. As such it is seen as a threat by the highly emotional and individualistic value system championed by Mr Moore and the Left. Individualistic may be the wrong term. Particularistic comes to mind. As Hofstedder showed the revolutionary process first atomizes society and then leaves the individual naked before the Totalitarian state. Note that leaders and creators of the Revolution such as Marx, Engels, Lenin, Trotsky and Stalin were in their personal focus and discipline almost Victorian.

Didn't Phat Moore have the place of honor next to Jimmie Carter at the 2004 Democrat Convention? They're all nuts.

It rains on the just and the unjust alike.

God's wrath is defined not by the act of nature itself but by man's response to nature. If hard times drive a man toward God, then its God's testing. If hard times drives a man away from God -- then its God's wrath.

What's poorly understood is that the same holds true for good times.
