The Chicago Way ripples out into the public service countryside --look at that Peterson guy --a cop getting freebies on wife-murder via The Chicago Way, until he finally went one too far and attracted outside media.

LOL, well not to split hairs much too thin Buddy, but I think that 13.768% is the definitive mark to shoot for and not a thousandth less.

Benj, Katz fails to mention that all but 4 of those 31 ear marks were repeat many more than once. Earmarks are not bad in and of themselves but everything is liable to abuse in DC's CYA culture, EVERYTHING.

As far as "deindustrialization and Who, in this race, has more experience thinking through that issue/subject - Barack Obama who chose to spend years organizing for the Industrial Areas Foundation or Johnny Mac? Well if thinking about as issue is to be equated with actually getting something rational done, then "OH" ought to have tons of acccomplishments to point out...., ahhh?

IAF deals in political power and organizational change, I am sure "OH"s experience with the CAC and Woods foundation held him in good stead when dealing with the housing projects and other issues in de-industrialized Chicago. I'm thinking that "OH"s thinking wasn't about the change, but about something else altogether, and I'm thinking that every time "OH" thinks he gets in trouble. But that's just me.

@buddy larsen,
Look like nice people in the party photo. Takes a crowd with a sense of humor to carry off a horny helmet. Remember a man who gets the girls needs a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjSYfwZpj3U" rel="nofollow">Really Big Helmet</a>.

Both McCain and Bush believe that they are old fashioned Gentlemen. That is not a matter of policy. I’m sure there are Democrats who fit that description, certainly there used to be. It is not a matter simply of how a man behaves so much as how he believes he behaves. In other words it is how he believes his Father thinks he behaves. It is the code of Prescott Bush and Admiral McCain. They would be kind to women and children, they would pay a ten cent debt immediately, they would always make a guest feel welcome, they would kill you in a heart beat if they felt it was necessary. They were dinosaurs by current standards. Sometimes such men were committed to inclusion and tolerance and sometimes they were bigots but they all understood that code. The most important point in it is you do not tell a personal lie. That may get murky when it is a question in politics of whether Mr A is backing Mr B’s bill. Bush felt Linda Chavez had been economical with the truth to him and therefore she is out of his administration, no matter how much she agrees with the White House on policy. McCain is not a man I would want to promise things to and then forget.

McCain believes that he did not select Palin primarily because of her sex. He is no fool, he knows and welcomes the idea of exploiting the Hillary vs Obama politics. What he said was that he first was attracted to the idea of elevating Palin when he saw how she challenged corrupt Republicans in Alaska. His first target wasn’t Obama but Ted Stevens. McCain must have contempt for Stevens bordering on rage. He wants that seat to go to the Democrats in order to purify the Republican party. We can only hope that McCain can get in and craft a new majority in Congress that will take power away from Reid in the Senate and Pelosi in the House. It is a bold vision and it probably will fail but if it works this will be a different country.

Life imitates art for Duchovny

LOS ANGELES — David Duchovny has entered a rehabilitation facility for sex addiction.

In a statement released yesterday by his lawyer, Stanton Stein, the actor said he did so voluntarily, adding: "I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family."

Duchovny, 48, plays a sex-obsessed character on the Showtime Series "Californication."
The show's second season begins Sept. 28.

The actor appeared in the film "The X Files: I Want to Believe" earlier this summer. He has been married to actress Tea Leoni since 1997. They have two children.
