This past Saturday evening, Chabad rabbi Dov Gruzman was conducting the annual ceremony to light the public Chanukah menorah in Stefenfaltz Square in Vienna, Austria. Suddenly, a local Muslim rushed over, began cursing the Jews, then “hurled himself” at the Rabbi, punching and kicking him. As the rabbi tried to hold off his attacker, the Muslim suddenly “bit his victim, severing part of his finger.” The attacker was caught and arrested; the rabbi was hospitalized, and doctors tried to reattach his finger.

I hope the rabbi does not have rabies.

Rabbi Gruzman was not dispirited. In fact, he has just planned a much larger public lighting of the menorah and increased the usual order of 50 sufganiyot (Chanukah jelly doughnuts) to 700. “This is our answer to anti-Semitism.”

I hope that this attack is not minimized or justified as yet another example of one deranged individual. While Sudden Jihad Syndrome may indeed be practiced by deranged people (here, Major Nidal Hasan comes to mind), such attackers are also acting out the wishes of a specific culture of hatred. Terrorists are not necessarily “deranged.” They may, indeed, be high-functioning “sociopaths.” Hitler certainly was.

Hitler loved Vienna. The Viennese, nay the Austrians, loved Hitler too, once he came to power.

Therefore, just because we can psychiatrically diagnose someone does not render them less dangerous. They can carefully plan attacks. They use terror as a means of control, to get their way–not as an expression of how undone they may be.

Today, the hatred of Jews, both as “infidels” and as “Zionists,” is routinely taught to most Muslims from childhood on by their religious leaders, parents, and peers. In our times, as I wrote in my book The New Anti-Semitism, the most lethal, even genocidal threats towards Jews and Israel are coming from the Islamic world. This is a prejudice that western leftists share and which partly explains why they make common cause with Islamists to support “the Palestinian victims” against their alleged Israeli “oppressors.”

Like Rabbi Gruzman, Israel’s response to increasing global anti-Semitism is also a proactive one. The Israeli government has convened a global conference to combat anti-Semitism which will take place later this week on December 16th-17th in Jerusalem.

Given Austria’s lousy track record, they, too, ought to convene such a conference. I challenge the Austrian government to do so.

Vienna is a Germanic country. They don’t think of Vienna and Tel Aviv in the same way. This is strange?

Hey, doc, we’re happy to have you here in the good ol’ USA. Pfft! on Europe.

It was Rabbi Kahane who observed that when he came upon an Egyptian killing a Jew, instead of setting up a committee to study the root causes of Egyptian anti-Semitism or convening an emergency session of the National Conference of Egyptians and Jews, he killed the Egyptian. That’s a good lesson. May G_d add it to our understanding.

  4. 4. Dennis

    There’s an old joke:

What’s the difference between a German and an Austrian?

Germans used to be Nazis. Austrians still are.

Like most ethnic jokes it is vastly overbroad, while retaining the root of the stereotype.

  5. “I hope that this attack is not minimized or justified as yet another example of one deranged individual.”

Indeed. Hope, also, that the entire notion of Islamic anti-semitism is not minimized whole-cloth, either: in a disturbing news story today, New England School of Law professor Victor Hansen suggested that Col. Hasan’s lawyers (Hasan of the Texas army base massacre) would probably argue diminished capacity and thus for mitigation on the grounds of his adherence to radical Islam:

“[Law Professor Victor Hansen] said Hasan’s lawyers surely will explore the idea that he had fallen under the sway of an extremist Muslim preacher online and had become less rational. That wouldn’t translate to legal insanity, the professor added, but it might mitigate his guilt enough to win him a life sentence.” [Dallas Morning News, 12/14/09]

So, accepting the ideology of radical Islam might render one less culpable if one acts on that ideology? Of course, lawyers will throw anything at the wall to see if it will stick: simply making this argument does not mean it will be accepted or endorsed by the court. However, we must watch this process closely, for if and when Hasan’s lawyer makes such a claim, it must be countered in the more important court, the court of public opinion, where so much of the power of the law really lies.

I believe that if the roles had been reversed, we would need peace talks and riot police to quell the vitriolic spew we would have from the Muslims/Islamic supporters

It is a sad commentary on our world. Peace, it never seems to be in the hearts and minds of the offenders.

ms. chesler: you are truly disgusting…
How you sleep at night is beyond my imagination.. for you to take the time and write down about a muslim bitting a rabbi in Vienna and the calling him a dog….what is the difference between you and Hitler nothing.. both hate mongers…
you name going forward will be:

    Frau Phyllis Hitler Chesler!!!

the tolerance of the intolerant will be our downfall

to n. 6, what you wrote it is already happening in Europe.

A muslim neanderthal who killed or brutally beaten his wife out of possession/jealousy has seen his charges in court diminished because the judges decided in his ‘culture’ it was ok to beat down women and we ‘civilized countries’ couldn’t held those people to our same standards of behaviour.

Same can go for that guy. His set of beliefs considered non-muslims as inferiors therefore the murder of 12 people doesn’t count the same for the court.

Phyllis, when a mirror is put in front of those who fear authentic progress the most, they do not believe what they see, because their perception of themselves is profoundly different.

In one of Thomas Cahill’s books, I believe it is “The Gifts of the Jews”, we see the greatest gift Jewry gave to all: What is ultimately the final word has yet to be spoken. For this is the legacy of “Lech, lechka”.

Plus, this season of Chanukkah provides another gift: namely the triumph in the ancient world over the tyrants presumed right to regulate the realm and the heart.

So, when these are neglected, or despised, no
matter the finery in which they are garbed, they are pirates. For this is one truth from
“A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens.

Doctor Chesler, you are a great human being, one who tends the light of goodness in an increasingly dark world. I’m not sure courage is enough to keep you going, but know that you are greatly admired, and will be admired well after you are gone from this earth.

    Mr: #8

    huh?

You are an idiot. JFTR, she didn’t call the rabbi a dog, you moron. She was hoping he didn’t get rabies from the muslim dog. Can you really be that dumb?

  12. 12. globalizer

    Phyllis,

    1. I am more than a little non-plussed by your taking the occasion of an attack on a Rabbi by a Muslim as an occasion to meditate on the (presumably current) anti-Semitism of the Viennese. Maybe today’s Austrians do not (or maybe do) like Jewish people, but I don’t think they are currently violently attacking them.
    2. On the broader, historical issue you raise, there is a somewhat more complicated history. After Bismarck shoved Austria out of the German world, Germanic Austrians did develop something of a psychosis about being dominated/overwhelmed by “others” (my Ruthenian, i.e., ethnically Ukranian Austrian ancestors were among those “others.”) Moreover, since the Jews were a particularly high-IQ, highly-educated group, they came to run, or at least be perceived to run, the Empire for Franz-Joizef. Yuri Slezkine in The Jewish Century cites some astounding figures for Jewish dominance in pre WW1 Austria in Business, Law, Medicine, Education, the Arts, etc. I am a classical musician by training, and I revere the Austrian Jews of that musical era: Mahler, Zemlinsky, Schoenberg, von Hoffmanstahl, Zweig (the last two collaborators of Richard Strauss…) etc. etc. BUT
    3. Too much prominence/dominance is maybe not a good thing for a distinctive group. BTW, Jews basically ran the early USSR — over the native Russians and Ukranians. (See Slezkine, and, if you read Russian, German, or French and dare to do so , Solzhenitzine’s Two Hundred Years Together). Eventually the same negative reaction occurred. Perhaps because,
    4. Something in the psyche of many very accomplished Jews (Einstein being a notable exception) does not seem to take well to the Christian concept of humility. I was appalled today to read in the WSJ’s obituary of Paul Samuelson, of his quite blatant arrogance about his superior intelligence. I have a Jewish brother in law who does the same thing. Not a good way to win friends and influence people.

If I was Jewish, I would buy a gun. I’d be prepared to defend myself at any cost.

First, they try and compartmentalize. Marginalize the handicapped-then go for an easy to blame group.

I can hear the line now, “jews caused the financial crisis, so let’s get rid of them’. Sounds like 1928 in Munich.

  14. 14. EdGi

Doc, the dark/bright sides of Vienna are also shown in the story of Hedy Lamarr (Hedwig Kiesler), the actress/inventor from a Jewish family who made an art movie, married a perverted Jewish nazi industrialist, escaped to America and invented, along with a hollywood composer, the frequency modulation technology used by our signals, bombs and torpedos in WWII. It is the basis of all cellphone associated gadgets we use today. She was moved by the anti-semitic dark side of her culture as well as the bright side.

  15. 15. A. Nonymous

Oops…#4 should read When MOSES came upon an Egyptian killing a Jew…
    Sorry!

  16. There are hate-filled individuals and then there are hate-filled rulers. They are all dangerous, but the rulers are much more dangerous. Ahmadinejad is building nuclear weapons and looking forward to the day when he will use them. He doesn’t care how many Iranians may be killed as a result of his efforts. He cannot be deterred by sanctions imposed against his country.
Both Ahmadinejad and the man who bit the rabbi have nothing to gain from their hate-filled behavior. Both of them have no practical reason to hate Jews or Israel. When people have no motives for their hatred, they are particularly dangerous. Hitler had no motive. German Jews were patriotic and–for the most part–assimilated. Hitler wanted to be the first to have an atomic bomb. But he sacrificed this need for the sake of his pointless hatred.
Ahmadinejad dislikes Arabs and hates Sunnis. He doesn’t want to help the Palestinians, except in one partular way: to support them in their fight against Israel. Never ever would he try to improve their living standards or help them to achieve independence.
Iran does not share a border with Israel and has no quarrel with it. Ahmadinejad wants to fight Israel the way the man in Vienna wanted to bite the rabbi–they both think it’s a beautiful thing to do.

The liberal left, modern day fascists, avoid being called racists by attacking the State of Israel instead of Jewish people. I wonder if their goals, Hitler/Gore, are the same as to the final solution?

  18. 18. David Thomson

“Still: My maternal grandmother loved the Emperor “Franz-Yoisef;” she thought he had been kind to the Jews.”

Jews were never anything more than second class citizens in the former Austro-Hungarian empire. Some even converted to Christianity simply to improve their social standing. It might have been relatively easy to believe otherwise because many Jews in the larger cities enjoyed an affluent lifestyle. They had it relatively made—as long as they lived within restricted areas. Ralph Fiennes’ 1999 film “Sunshine” deals with this era. It’s well worth seeing.

  19. 19. Mike Jefferson

Normally, a case where a dog bites a man is not newsworthy, but since the Western World has literally gone to the dogs, I see the wisdom here. In a very simplistic fashion, Jeff is absolutely correct; Jews need to start getting “uppity”. Jews have become scientists and Nobel laureates, masters of industry and politics too. Now they need to transcend the present and embrace the proud warrior tradition. Judah Maccabi’s exploits are still taught as models of asymmetric warfare in war colleges across the globe. It’s time to actualize the past.

Dear Ms. Chesler: In the early eighties I lived three months in Vienna. I never returned, I had nightmares for months due to my stay there. About concentration camps. A couple of times I heard old people criticize young people saying “If our Adolf were alive…” I saw flea markets packed with Nazi memorabilia, antiquarians too. And mostly old people in Vienna, with dogs, the only living thing they visibly cared for. I doubt that generation learned anything from WWII, they just resented the outcome for decades. LT

Right. Unless, of course, he was in fact a deranged individual.

It was the Israeli government that observed that Rabbi Kahane was a hate-monger.

I was married in Vienna nearly 50 years ago, though not in St Stephen’s, but in the Karlskirche (St Charles Borromeo). There’s a gorgeous gold ornament above the altar with Hebrew letters for YHWH. In front are two columns, near copies of Trajan’s column in Rome, celebrating his destuction of Jerusalem. The Menorah from the Second Temple is prominent. Across the way is the Belvedere palace, now an art museum, once a residence of Prinz Eugen, who fought the Muslim Turks. Billy Wilder (Some Like it Hot), who was born in Austro-Hungarian Galicia, if I rememember correctly, quipped: “Austria is a remarkable country. They’ve managed to convince everybody that Mozart was an Austrian and Hitler was a Gwerman.

  23. 23. john peter

Hitler didn’t love Vienna. In 1938 the Viennese certainly loved him. He detested the multi-ethnic Habsburg Empire. In Mein Kampf (My Jihad) he wrote: “When the news of the murder of Archduke Francis Ferdinand arrived in Munich (I happened to be sitting at: home and heard of it only vaguely), I was at first seized with worry that the bullets may have been shot from the pistols of German students, who, out of indignation at the Heir Apparent’s continuous work of Slavization, wanted to free the German people from this internal enemy. What the consequence of this would have been was easy to imagine: a new wave of persecutions which would now have been ‘justified’ and ‘explained’ in the eyes of the whole world. But when, soon afterward, I heard the names of the supposed assassins, and moreover read that they had been identified as Serbs, a light shudder began to run through me at this vengeance of inscrutable Destiny.”– The PR against the Serbs in the 1990s wars was a device for transferring blame from Germans (death camps, concentration camps, rape camps) to Serbs, one of the three peoples — Jews, Gypsies, Serbs– that he slated for annihilation. Amazingly Phyllis Chesler, swallowed the German pro-Muslim propaganda and joined the German-led war on the Serbs.

    Phyllis

Brave as always, insihtful too, thanks for the latest message.

When Viennese Jews left in geat numbers–those who were not roudned up, humiliated, persecuted and eventually murdered by the Nazis–Vienna lost its heart and soul. The great mass of people did not wait until Anaschluss to start loving Hitler, they marched and practiced their Judeophobia for nearly a decade beforehand. The old Dual Monarchy of the Danube was not perfect, top be sure, but it had virtues far in ezxcess of Little Austria after Versailles.

But biting a rabbi, that takes a modern finesse. What comes next–canibbalism?

Islam is a major headache and problem, and will be for the short and long term. It is rabid, that was a good choice of words.

In reading your article, I hope you haven’t forgotten that the Christian church continues to teach a lie, that Jews killed Jesus. As long as that lie continues to be taught in the West and the rest of the world, we will have Viennas, Hitlers and right and left wingers who enable haters whether they be Muslims or Christians.

I love Jesus and I hate the church. It was this loving church that managed somehow to mostly quiet during the genocide of the American Indian, slavery, the Shoah, and other slaughters which occur as a result of our ‘leaders’ wanting war to be the first option instead of the last.

Some of your readers consider themselves pro-life but when it comes to murdering Iraqi and Afghanistan’s unborn and born children, most are loudly silent…..which of course makes them total hypocrites.

There are quite a few Americans on the left and the right, Tom Freidman for example, who hate Jihad against Americans and love Jihad against Jews.

“…but when it comes to murdering Iraqi and Afghanistan’s unborn and born children”

I am utterly unaware of this ever occurring. Could you please point out even one example of a military order to murder unborn and born children? There has not been any recorded instances of such an action. Are you possibly confusing indirect with direct killing? There is a huge difference between the two. Innocents almost invariably get caught in the crosshairs. It cannot be avoided unless one wishes to completely surrender to tyranny. And then the aggressor may very will kill them anyway.

As usual, another disturbing, heart rending piece by Phyllis Chesler. As to her last hope, her passion and desperation are palpable. But, I wouldn’t count on that wish coming true anytime soon.

  31. 31. HellenoChristian

    Part 1)

    12. I totally agree with you.

    8. What do you expect, that one who does so (like your Islamic/-ist brother/comrad), has NOT to be criticized and has – maybe – INSTEAD even to be praised?

Humanity (the Islamism-free part of it, at least) is totally fed up with your Islamic/-ist Fellows, who dare to act like BEASTS against Others,

and yet asking to be (especially) respected, revered, understood, pitied, supported, helped, lauded, praised,

in no case criticized, asked to respect Others and their Rights, expected to act like mindful human Beings, …!

NEWS: there are other Adjectives blindly used against Anyone who dares to criticize the Islamic/-ist Way of Acting (and actually its Hate Agenda against Others), those are

    “Neo-con”, “far Right-Wing Israeli”, “Anti Muslim(s)”.

  32. 32. HellenoChristian

    Part 2)

Please, note how refined this Hate against Non-islamic/-ist people became, and

take into Consideration that who uses those Adjectives – against Others – never mentions his/her own Position – which could be “Communist” or “far Left-Wing Totalitarianist”, “far Right-Wing Islamo-palestinian” or “far Right-Wing anti Israelian Islamist”, “Islamist” or “anti Non-Islamic/-ist people”,

accurately avoiding to use other Terms,

which are up to now fully recognized as Symptoms of – injustified – (Islamic/-ist) Hate (Speech) against Others, such as “Nazi/Racist/far Right-Wingers/…”, “Zionist”, “Islamophobe(s)”.

Note that even (several) so called human Rights’ Activists are totally colluded with
this Strategy of mental Manipulation. They even praise Dhimmitude! There is no critical Thinking toward Islam/-ism, there is the Wish to see it as “the Solution”, which is obviously not (Iran, Arabia Saudita): there is the Wish to destroy the West, and I really can’t (undert)stand why, since it is the only Place on Earth granting Rights to Everyone, and Freedom(s). And there is no Wish to call the (D)Evil the (D)Evil, but there is – instead – the Wish to appease it and even (app)laud it! I AM UNABLE TO (UNDER)STAND THIS.

Note how Islamic/-ist people (Followers of Islam-ism) and their Supporters try in any Way to turn their Victim into Executioner, People they offended into Offenders, …,

and try to portray any Criticism of Islam-ism and related (bestial) Behaviour as “human Rights’ Violation” [*].

[*] funny …: “The Cairo Declaration” – which is “human Rights-icide” – still be there, despite the Islamic/-ist Howling(s) about “their human Rights’” Violation(s) (which is/are always alleged).

What Americans do not know about Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
As a German i agree not in all details with the article, which is certainly based on facts. Something Americans do not know is that since we have had reeducation in Germany, less in Austria and not at all in Siwtzerland there is an ideological fight against nazism which is a marginal phenomenon in public life. It is called “KAMPF GEGEn RECHTS” which means fight against the right wing. The refelex goes like this: when You are Conservative then Your are not a Communist or Socialist or Green. If You do not belong to the main stream socialist Blah Blah then Yor must be NAZI. And thats it. The Governments in Germany and Austria fund the KAMPF GEGEN RECHT with millions of tax Euros. The organizers of this new state religion apart form Global Warming are former communists, socialists, feminists and radical Greens. So for a Conservative ther is no place to go in german speaking countries. Peculiar enough ist that Sitzerland took over the same way of poltical destruction of Conservatism. So we have the situation that the left is fighting Conservatism (which used to be an strong ally of Israel) side by side with fascist mulsims, who are no Nazis by definition. Nationalsocialism used to be atheistic, socialistic antiliberal, anticonservative and against any religion.

  34. 34. Myno

I, a gentile, recently accompanied my Jewish wife on her trip to Vienna. The city had been the childhood home of her father who, with the wiser small portion of his family, abandoned their wealth and barely escaped the Nazis. We found the apartment where his family had lived before fleeing the city and the country, eventually landing in NYC by way of Haiti and Cuba. On our trip of remembrance, we found the Viennese both warm and cold in turns. We were treated royally by the hotel staff, who understood why we were there. The Jewish museums and the main Temple/Synagogue were moving testaments to the struggles of Viennese Jews who lived with anti-sematism through the ages. In all, we enjoyed touring the city. But as and after we left, we each separately felt, and then shared, a sense of relief at being away.

  35. 35. Robert F

While I have been to Poland, and not Austria, my story is worth telling because anti-Semitism knows no boundaries.
I saw very little graffiti in Poland, but one recurring work of “art” stood out: A Star of David hanging from a hangman’s noose… A native Pole struck up a conversation with me. Of all the things he could have asked, what did he want to know? “Do we have a problem with Jews in America?”
There were virtually no Muslims in Poland then, not sure about today. In fact, there are hardly any Jews in Poland!
The bottom line is that Europe is inherently antisemitic. I doubt that Muslim antisemites will find many Europeans challenging them.

  36. 36. Alan Weick

Some years ago I worked for a German bank. My boss, who was German, had relations in Vienna who he would visit from time to time. I once asked him, very matter of factly, “How was Vienna?”. His response, with a disgusted look on his face, “Still brown.”

  37. 37. scythe

These people (Moslems) should be thrown out of polite civilized society. Considering the horrors committed against the Jews of Europe, to invite back hordes of anti-Semites is a declaration of HATRED that one would have hoped had been dead and buried. To attack people who are the part of the great cultures of Europe, part of the vibrancy and history of these countries, who were brought to the brink of extermination because of a delusional ideology is CRIMINAL. The Moslem threat in western European countries is every bit as lethal and terrifying than what has preceded it and should be stopped. The wonder of it all is that those who will find themselves at the end of a Moslem fist or worse continue to import danger and death because they think it makes them “better” than anyone who protests. The Jews of Europe (what’s left) should unite and make it clear than anyone who has a problem with their position of self preservation is an anti-Semite. PURE AND SIMPLE.

  38. While Sudden Jihad Syndrome may indeed be practiced by deranged people (here, Major Nidal Hasan comes to mind), such attackers are also acting out the wishes of a specific culture of hatred.

If people choose to believe that all Muslims are potential deranged killers, and that all Muslim immigrants are dangerous and should be expelled from ‘civilized’ countries, then there is a party in Austria that will condemn these immigrants en masse – the Freedom Party of Austria, led by their newly elected Heinz Christian Strache.

Just as the Nazis gained power by blaming Jews (and the Jewish/Communist conspiracy) for all of their problems (see #13 globalizer for that old routine) the FPO made unprecedented gains in Austria were on a platform of fear about immigration and the perceived threat of Islam. FPO leader Heinz Christian Strache, once described women in Islamic dress as ‘female ninjas’. Strache also says that ”Islam isn’t just a religion, it’s a totalitarian legal and social system,’ His supporters complain that ‘The anti-fascists are the new fascists,’ he says. ‘We are not allowed to tell the truth about how foreigners are a threat.’

If we believe that our enemy is Iran, Saudi Arabia and all other state supporters of terrorism, then Strache is not our friend. He has aligned his party with Iran and strongly opposes sanctions to force a suspension of Teheran’s nuclear program. The party’s founder, Jörg Haider, who had praised Nazi policies, also hoped to break ties to Israel in favor of Iran

If we call Islam and all Muslims our enemy and if we believe that all Muslim immigrants, from pizza shop owners to taxi drivers, are the enemy, then Strache and his ilk would appear to be friends. After all, the enemy of your enemy is your friend. Right?

Unfortunately again, that’s wrong. Although the nouveau Nazis in the FPO and the Alliance for Austria’s future occasionally pretend to tolerate Jews, when Jorg Haider died in a car accident after having a fight with his gay lover and drinking too much alcohol, his followers immediately blamed the Jews for his death. Not the Muslims, the Jews.

On November 23, Strache’s Freedom Party MPs asked the Minister of Health for data relating to the circumcision of boys under the age of 15. They want to know, specifically, how many boys are circumcised for medical reasons and how many for “traditional ritual reasons”. In Austria there are presently no statistics on this sort of thing. The answer to this question will cost millions of Euro to obtain. So why do they ask?

Karl Pfeifer, who investigated this circumcision report believes that they are trying to incite people against both Jews and Muslims.

The parties who oppose foreigners may try to hide their anti-Semitism in the guise of fighting ‘immigration’, but history proves that these parties are primarily motivated by the worst kind of racism. Like #13 ‘globalist’, they think they’re hiding their rabid nature. They’re not

  39. 39. what is "occupation"

I would just have laughed my ass off if the Rabbi had pulled out a jar of bacon bits and proceeded to beat the moslem attacker over the head with it…

I am all for Jews arming themselves with selected bits of pork embedded weapons to be as offensive as possible to islamic attackers…

    19. David Thomson: “Jews were never anything more than second class citizens in the former Austro-Hungarian empire. Some even converted to Christianity simply to improve their social standing.”

Sometimes I wonder if Jews will ever figure out why muslims try to persecute them, and why. Do they even connect that it was a muslim who killed Rabbi Kahane? My grand-parents always said that our ancestors converted to Christianity because they like Christianity. We’re still Christians. To many of us out here, it’s quite sensible for Jews to convert to Christianity for bigger reasons than simply improving our social standing. Christianity makes a lot of sense. It works.

    PART 1.

    40. I am not sure it is an honest Approach your one.

When it comes to Criticism of Islam, and its Followers,

    if you agree with it,

you don’t do it because you belong to a Party or to another,

or to a political Wing or to another,

but because you are aware of what you’re criticizing,

    and why you’re criticizing it.

It has been said several times,

definitely correctly according to my point of view,

that Muhammedan Islam and Hitlerian Nazism were/are very similar.

Therefore you should compare Criticism of Muhammedan Islam and its Followers,

to Criticism of Hitlerian Nazism and its Followers,

rather than comparing it to Criticism of Jews during the Past.

Anyway, here you have Elizabeth Sabadesch-Wolff being accused of Hate Speech in Austria, Vienna,

for lecturing “against” Islam (its Shari’a):

A Nazi alike, or the Way she self portray herself, which is: a Human Rights’ Activist and Feminist (who “just” want to grant a future of Freedom and Dignity to herself and her daughter and other females/women)?

I THINK WE SHOULD/CAN DIFFERENCIATE BETWEEN THE PAST AND THE PRESENT,

ABOVE ALL BECAUSE WE ARE TALKING ABOUT EUROPEAN HISTORY,

AND WORLD WAR I AND II AFFECTED EVERYONE’S LIFE,

    AND OUR FUTURE ‘TILL TODAY,

AND WE – ALLEGEDLY – LEARNED A LOT FROM “PAST MISTAKES”, AND “PAST SITUATIONS”.

I think Europe feels grateful to America which rescued her from Hitlerian Nazism, so do Europeans.

Therefore Europeans refuse to be subjected to another Hitlerian Nazism,

which in Today’s World is equal to Muhammedan Islam,

    not to any Western Democracy!

I mean: we are no more those of European 30s,

    and from then to Today,

there has been a World War, and a couple or more of important Revolutions,

    those of 60s and 70s,

not to mention past Terror Attacks (in Europe),

and Islamification of several part of Europe (self creation of Ghettos – no go Areas for Non-islamic people, local Police included – by Islamic/-ist people, Immigrants – who are free to go back Home at any Time they want. They all have at least a Country, and Islamized Country, where to go. Which was not the Case for Jews at the Time of Hitlerian Nazism).

CRITICISM OF ISLAM-ISM AND ITS FOLLOWERS TODAY, BY EUROPEANS AND/OR WESTERN PEOPLE (FEMINISTS, WOMEN, HUMAN RIGHTS’ AND CHILDREN RIGHTS’ ACTIVISTS), CANNOT BE COMPARED TO CRITICISM OF JEWS (PEOPLE) DURING HITLERIAN NAZISM. CAN IT?

  43. 43. HellenoChristian

    PART 3.

Islam criticizes people (Jews, Christians, Pagans, “Stones’ Worshippers”, …),

while we are criticizing Islam (Ideology).

To protect their Ideology and themselves, Islam’s Followers of Organization of Islamic Conference (dominating United Nations) forwarded well known “Anti Defamation of Religions’ Resolution”,

which allows Islam and its Followers going on insulting Others and Hate Preaching against them,

while forbid Others (us, Counterjihaidsts, …) to criticize Islam (and its Followers).

NOW THE QUESTION IS: IS THIS ISLAM THAT THE WEST IS REJECTING

THE SAME OF WHAT JEWS FOLLOWED AT THE TIME OF HITLERIAN NAZISM,

    AND ARE CRITICS OF ISLAM,

    THE SAME OF HITLERIAN NAZISM,

OR IS IT THE OTHER WAY ‘ROUND?

  44. 44. Shoshana Rubin

To #30, I can’t provide you with links because the links I had have all been removed. You won’t find those facts in the US media, right or left. After those wars, you will find out for yourself. It is very disturbing to say the least.

  45. 45. Stephen Brady

Someone mentioned Hitler’s attitude towards Vienna, and I thought it might do well to point out that he both hated and loved Vienna.

When he was a young man finally freed from the tyranny of his father, he loved Vienna. He went to Vienna … as one of the great centers of art in the world … to pursue his dreams. Had he been accepted into the Academy of Art as a student, he might be known, today, as one of the most gifted artists the world has ever known. He showed promise.

However, he was not accepted into the Academy, and his love for Vienna started to slide, as his physical surroundings deteriorated. Eventually, he ended up experiencing the seamiest side of the city, and it tortured him.

In this atmosphere, he came into contact with the vibrant anti-Semitic elements of Vienna. He started to buy into the notion that Jews were the cause of his misery (in spite of the many kindnesses of Jews to him, personally … one of them gave him a warm coat so he would survive a Viennese winter).

As Mr. John Toland points out in his tome “Adolf Hitler”, he finally decided to head for Germany. It is significant that another person shared this dream of emigrating to Germany, and went with him. The young friend of Hitler’s was a Jew.

  46. #43 – 45 From what I’ve seen of the anti immigrant movement in Europe and the United States, their enemy is not really Muslims or Jews. Their enemy is the Left. But Muslims are becoming very convenient tools for hate-based anti-immigrant parties.

During WWII, the majority of fascists considered the communists to be their main enemy. But anti-Semitism (and general racist bias towards about ‘auslander’) was easier to exploit than anti-communism. By connecting the Jews with the Left, the fascists were able to drum up more support.

Now the immigrant-haters are using the Muslim/Left association to win votes. Anti Immigrant parties like the BNP and the FPO in Austria have won elections and are using their opposition to immigration to build a political base.

The Left does nothing to help the situation because they’re too busy trying to please their petrodollar-rich allies. All of our government officials profit greatly from their alliances with terror supporting states like Saudi Arabia and Iran. They empower Wahhabi supported organizations like Hizb-ut Tahrir and the Muslim Brotherhood. Ordinary Muslims also feel empowered by these alliances, and they believe that they can benefit from our post-9/11 obsession with Islam. But ordinary Muslims do not control groups like al Qaeda, Hezbollah and Hizb-ut-Tahrir. Saudi and Iranian leaders do.

We can only fight terrorism by condemning any legitimization or alliance with terrorism’s real supporters, the government of Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria, etc. Stirring up hatred of Muslim neighbors just because they’re Muslim will only help racist groups like the BNP and the FPO gain power.

  47. 47. Laura

Mary Madigan, the surge in anti-Semitism in Europe is coming from muslims and their leftist enablers.

  48. 48. MKH

Why use the actions of a crazed Muslim to perpetuate some notion of Vienna as a particularly antisemitic city. The same incident could have occurred in Amsterdam, Paris or for what it’s worth Los Angeles.

The attacker wasn’t a young Austrian white supremacist but a radical Muslim, a group which can be found worldwide and has really not all that much to do with native Austrians. Certainly not enough to create an overarching narrative from Nazis to radical Muslims.

It seems like the motivation here is lingering resentment against the German-speaking people over something that happened when most of them weren’t even born and they nevertheless deeply regret. Ms. Chesler can of course feel whichever way she wants, we all carry our little grudges and dislikes but it’s exactly very convincing as far as articles go.

  49. 49. MKH

Meant to say “it’s NOT exactly very convincing as far as articles go” obviously.

  50. Mary Madigan, the surge in anti-Semitism in Europe is coming from muslims and their leftist enablers.

It’s also coming from Christians in Moldova, far right groups in Hungary, extremist groups like Stormfront in the US, and from anti-foreigner groups in Britain, Austria – the usual suspects in the BNP and the FPO…

Anti semitism and a generalized hatred of anyone who isn’t swimming in your particular fever swam is pretty much required by all members of the lunatic fringe, right, left, Muslim,Christian, atheist, etc.

  51. 51. gus

It is important to remember that Hitler didn’t bring Jew-hatred to Europe, he absorbed it from Europe, particularly Vienna. Austrians are still the most racist people in ‘western’ Europe. They have been in utter denial of their true level of support and love of Nazism. In 1938 there were hundreds of thousands of Jews in Vienna. In 1945 there were virtually none, but there were literally millions of Nazis, unrepentant Nazis. Though comprising only 8% of the population of the Reich, Austrians comprised 50% of the SS officers staffing the extermination camps. And they’ve never come clean about that. If one wants proof of what unrepentant Nazis the Austrians still are, simply look at the careers of Kurt Waldheim and Jorg Haider.

It’s strange that people should get so worked up about the ‘animal’ who bit the finger off a rabbi, when Austria is literally full of people who did much, much, much worse than bite off the finger of a man. And yet, no one calls these Nazi pigs animals except for a few people like me. Hitler picked up his Jew hatred from Vienna and Munich, not the other way around.

  52. 52. HellenoChristian

    Part a)

    49. Mary, you are still comparing Islamic people to Jews, why?

I ask you therefore: is Islam like Judaism?

If so, why do you think that the West reject them or their Followers?

About Communism: why do you think the (official) West is (still) rejecting it?

Why are the Values of the West?

    Do you dislike them?

Do you think it is better for Individuals to submit to “Allah+Muhammad”, or “The Khalifa”, or “The Party” or to freely think and organize themselves, which in a word is to benefit of personal Freedom(s)?

Why do you think Cold War existed (and still existing)?

    Which part do you support?

If you don’t support the Western/Liberal part of it, why do you (if you do) – still – living in the West?

About Marxism (The Left): Marx was a Jew, which anyway rejected Religion and refused to submit to God: therefore Communism is seen as an Enemy by Islamic/-ist Followers, not to mention the fact that Marx, being a Jew, is anyway hated by Islamic/-ist people, and this has to do with Muhammad’s story, ….

Appearently Communists or Ex-soviets allied with, for instance Saddam Hussein; it seems that there is also fake Priests who aren’t Christians at all, but who are Communists, and their Priesthood is meant just to undermine the Church (and Christianity self?).

Alqaida (Islamists, Islamic/-ist Terrorists) allied with Communists, Ex-soviets against “The (liberal) West”, in a War against a same Enemies,

therefore the Rejection of Islam-ism and Communism (Soviets) by The West (Liberal world, Freedom loving world), is based on much more than an alleged “Hate for Immigrants”,

and the Alliance between Islam-ism and The Left (Marxists) is based on much more than an alleged “Wish to protect Immigrants’ Rights”.

The Left, in the West, by the Way, is allying with (Islamic/-ist Immigrants) becose those last ones, reproducing in huge number, are allegedly granting to it a huge number of votes: The Left is using Immigrants to empower itself,

even if Islamic/-ist Immigrants (I do not know: might we say the same about Jews?) believe in Anti-social(ist) Values, like Discrimination, Racism, Inequality, Colonialism, Imperialism, ….

In Iran Communists allied with Islamists in order to “defeat the alleged Imperialist Right” and Iranians see now how much it costed them this Alliance (they actually saw that immediately after Khomeini took Power in ’79: Comrades – who helped “him” overthrowing the Shah have been persecuted and hunged!).

Now Iranian Comrades (like Maryam Namazie) are living IN THE WEST and benefitting of its FREEDOM(S) AND LIBERTY(/-IES), using it as a Platform to spread their (still Communist!) Message. [I dare to say: very inconsistent from them! And somehow very "the same Iranian Errors of the Past to be repeated" alike! They fight for "ISLAMIC Immigrants' Rights",

and I would like to point out that - in the rest of Europe - people can say "thank you" to The Left if Islamic/-ist Immigrants are gaining Power,

asking their "religious Beliefs" to be respected,

their "religious Practices" included, which means, "Honor's Oppression", "Apostasy's Ban", and other dreadful things included.]

I ask you: is so called The Right wrong in asking for the Spreading of Islamic/-ist Culture to be stopped?

Is so called The Right wrong in condemning so called The Left for Supporting Islamic/-ist Movements, in the West AND ABROAD (Middle East – … – included)?

  53. 53. HellenoChristian

    Part b)

PLEASE, MIND THAT “THE LEFT” AND “ISLAMIC/-IST MOVEMENTS” ARE THOSE WHO ARE WEARING “PALESTINIAN SCARF” AND CARRYING ITS VALUES,

which means: “Death to Jews, Death to The West, Death to Capitalism,

hurray for Usama bin Laden, al-Qaida [*]!”

[*] Also known as “Islamic Freedom Fighters” or “Revolutionaries”, while they actually are “Islamist Fighters” and “Reactionaries”.

My dear, I am neither Leftist nor Rightist, I am myself, and I reject Totalitarianism and I reject Islam-ism for its Disregarding Human/Women’s/Children’s Rights, as well as for its Disregarding of anything which is Non-islamic (Countries, Civilizations, Cultures, Religions, Policies, People, …),

therefore I am against its Spreading in the West and against ANYONE who supports it.

And I am sure it is absurd calling me a Racist or a Xenophobe or whatever else for my Position toward it. My Position toward it isn’t an impulsive or unreasoned one, at the Opposite – and I would say it is a very “Non Right-Wing” one, considering The Right in its traditional Nazist/Fascist Role.

Nowadays, I agree with whom said that, Anti-fascists are the New-fascists ….

Shortly: I forward you this Text, which will certainly clearify you the Differences and Similarities between the different Totalitarianisms existing on Earth
    http://www.newenglishreview.org/custpage.cfm/frm/31136/sec_id/31136

NOTE: JEWS WHO ARE ALLYING WITH ISLAM-ISM’S FOLLOWERS ARE SIGNING THEIR DEATH SENTENCE (AT THEIR HANDS, NOT OTHERS’), SAME GOES FOR “THE LEFT” (AS SOON AS ISLAMISTS WILL HAVE “THEIR PARTY”, THEY WILL VOTE FOR IT, NOT FOR “THE LEFT” ANYMORE!).

  54. 54. HellenoChristian

    54. Dear, something doesn’t work in your Reasoning. Hider was a Nationalist, who wanted his Culture to be preserved: I’m not sure this must be called Racism.

I don’t even think that Austrians are trying and invade, colonize, imperialize other Countries: (eventually) they want to live in their Country, with their Culture (which is a Western one, not a Middle Eastern one, nor an African one or else).

At this point it is urged to talk why is one Anti-semite, and what does Anti-semitism mean

(what did it mean at the Time of Hitler or even before, since you say that Hitler learned to be Anti-semite, not that Anti-semitism started from him,

and what does it mean Today).

Elizabeth Sabadesch-Wolff seems to be … very Semite (according to her name): she is Austrian, is she Anti-semite?

Since she calls herself a human Rights’ Activist and a Feminist, I therefore ask you,

does be a human Rights’ Activist and a Feminist means being Anti-semite?

I am now wondering, and I would like you to give me an (your) Answer.

[By the Way: that Europeans are Racists is a bit too much. Multiculturalism - Multiracism - is something strictly related to their Countries! Not the same to be said about other Countries of the World, where Ethnicity is very important to locals!

Then, if Europeans claim that they want to preserve their Western Culture and that they do not want to become a III. World Country or a Ex-soviet Country, why should they be blamed for that? Why should they be called Racists for that? Maybe other Cultures or "Races" are better than their own, ... on their Soil?

Don't forget that someone - ... - has been stopped "at the Gates of Vienna" several centuries ago: cannot it be that Austrians still remember the dreadful Experience, and became especially protective toward their Culture/Race/Territory/Identity?

Why should they be called Racists or Anti-semites for that? (Thank you for an Answer.)]

  55. 55. mr

#53 Mary, Mary Mary!!! Glad you are back Muslims bring Jew hatred to Europe? I thought it was the Christains who murdered 6 million inocent jews…
Have you ever dated a muslim guy?

  56. 56. T. O'Connor

Perhaps it was stated by another already, Austrians made up some vast percentage of the S.S., as much as 90% if memory serves.

  57. 57. Oscar the Grump

    #58 mr
Muslims bring Jew hatred to Europe
Yes they do! Seen any news lately? Or, do you want to argue about world news reports.

  58. 58. joeblough

C’mon, you old, still beautiful, waltz-hungry, spoiled, seductive, Jew-hating city: Do right by the Jews for once.

    Hear, hear!

The worst riffraff of Christendom have always been taken in by Jew hatred. They get to rail against the Jews while the thugs and charlatans of their own culture rob them blind and degrade their culture.

It was ever thus. No reason to expect any change.

Now they can make common cause with the mohammedan imperialists.

    They will.

    Our new nazis are here.

Only a few of them are old fashioned Hitler fans. That stuff is pretty passe. The new nazis have much more fashionable clothes and enthusiasms, and they talk a much more fashionable internationalist palaver than the old 3rd Reich nazis did.

Ironically, their favorite insult is to call people nazis!

    Go figure.

  59. 59. HellenoChristian

    PART A)

    61. I find your statements very defaming and insulting,

above all because it is people in the Christian West who are denouncing Islam and its Preachings,

    Hatred against Jews included.

In the West we’ve been brought up reading Hanne Frank’s Diary,

and now calling us “Austrians” meaning – as someone said – “90% S.S.”,

it really sound offensive and irrespectful.

WWII is over, did you ever notice?

Did you ever notice that 50+ years flew – not without major Events happening in the Meantime – in the West,

and that we (in the West) are no more in 30s,

living under the Threat of Hitlerian Nazism or else?

It is very offensive to label Westerners as Hitlerian Nazis,

considered that Jews are not differently treated than Others.

If there is a Difference between their Lifestyle and typical Western Lifestyle (Liberal, Secular, based on Laicity, …), this is due to a Choice of them, not to a Western/Christian Choice!

I NEED TO KNOW FROM YOU WHY DO YOU THINK ANTI-SEMITISM EXISTED/EXISTS,

AND WHAT IS IT BASED ON.

WHY SEMITES WERE/ARE HATED OR CRITICIZED.

This is a very serious Question which requires an Answer, from you.

In case of need, I might forward you a couple of Links by MEMRI.tv, where ISLAMIC/-IST CLERICS, are clearly stating why do they (and their Community) – STILL – hate Jews:

and labeling people in the West, who are criticizing Islamic Mentality’s Immigration, as “Racists” and “Xenophobic”, and “Hitlerian Nazis”,

is practically giving a “green Light” to Islamic/-ist Mentality’s Immigration (see Speeches of above mentioned Clerics).

PLEASE, SWITCH ON YOUR LOGICAL THINKING AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, OTHERWISE YOUR SUPPORT FOR ISLAMIC PEOPLE AND YOUR HATE (HATE) FOR CHRISTIANS,

WILL DRIVE YOU TO A RESULT,

WHICH IS EXACTELY THE OPPOSITE OF YOUR WISHED ONE!

  60. 60. HellenoChristian

    PART B)

    TO EVERYONE please:

    a. Clearify to me why (do you think) does Anti-semitism exist. What (in your Opinion) is it based on?

    b. If Critics of Islam in Europe are by you labeled as “Neo-hitlerian-Nazis”,

may I please know what do you think about Islam, and about Supporters of it?

    c. What do you think about The West?

    d. Should The West (Western Christians, Critics of Islam), in order NOT to be labeled as “Hitlerian Nazi”, ACCEPT to be Islamized?

If yes: why? (Tell me please why Islam is better than Democracy and Human Rights)

If no: why? (Tell me please why Democracy and Human Rights are better than Islam)

WAITING FOR AN ANSWER I THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR TAKING MY QUESTIONS INTO (VERY) SERIOUS CONSIDERATION.

  61. 61. Bertil

There is no anti semitism. The accident described is merely an example of hooliganism.

  62. I ask you: is so called The Right wrong in asking for the Spreading of Islamic/-ist Culture to be stopped?

If the right is allied with governments of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates or Iran, then the Right is not trying to stop the spread of Islamic culture. They’re trying to win votes by blaming powerless immigrants for the crimes that terror-supporting Islamist regimes commit.

Is so called The Right wrong in condemning so called The Left for Supporting Islamic/-ist Movements, in the West AND ABROAD (Middle East – … – included)?

Yes, because the Right is also supporting Islamist movements in the West and abroad.

  63. 63. joeblough

    62. HellenoChristian:

Cheer up and calm down. You have completely misread me.

    Please read ALL the words.

I have no time to get into this now, but let me put the key sentence here.

The worst riffraff of Christendom have always been taken in by Jew hatred.

    Get it?

That’s not Christians. That’s “the worst riffraff of Christendom”.

    Cheer up.

  64. 64. HellenoChristian

    65. What should those Immigrants be, please? Are not their mosques, the mosques they follow, the Teachings they follow, which preach Hate against (every) Non-islamic person and Culture (even within Non-islamic Countries!)? The Fairy of the “poor innocent Immigrant” doesn’t convince me ANYMORE. Hopefully you too will face Reality very soon (hopefully not too late).

About The Right and The Left: The Right is fighting against Hate Preachings within the West, while The Left is supporting Islamic Coummunities in the West (whose mosques preach Hate against any Non-islamic person and Culture). Appearently Hussein Obama and its Party have been financed by United Arab Emirates, which is one of those Countries that you are calling as “Allied of The Right”.

MY OPINION IS THAT WE HAVE TO PUT AN END TO THIS “THE RIGHT” AND “THE LEFT” AND START VOTING FOR “IDEAS”,

EDITED DOWN, TOO MANY POSTS, TOO LONG, TOO MANY PARAGRAPHS, TOO MUCH ALL CAPITALIZING. PLEASE HAVE MERCY!

  65. 65. HellenoChristian

    [Yes, sorry.]

  66. Appearently Hussein Obama and its Party have been financed by United Arab Emirates, which is one of those Countries that you are calling as “Allied of The Right”.

The United Arab Emirates is also allied with the right. Remember the Dubai Ports World controversy of 2006?

At issue was the sale of port management businesses in six major U.S. seaports to Dubai Ports World, a United Arab Emirates (UAE) company. There was debate about whether this sale would compromise port security.

The Republicans were fighting to sell our port security to the terror supporting Arab Emirates and the Democrats were fighting against the sale. Barack Obama was one of the Democrats who fully opposed the sale.

Now, Dubai Ports World, like many businesses in the Gulf states, is bankrupt. If the Republicans had succeed, our security and our economy would have been severely compromised.

So tell me again about how the Right is ‘fighting’ terrorism.

  67. 67. HellenoChristian

    69. Fighting Terrorism is about informing about it, without politically Correctness and Apology for the very Doctrine at the base of it, and about exposing Islamic/-ist Teachings about hating anything which is Non-islam and which is Non-islamic. “Democrats fully opposed …” but then they get fully funded by (UAE) and they fully support Islam. My point is to support those who expose Islam-ism, and there is no Reason to be accused of far Right-Wingism, Racism, Xenophobia, or Whatever else for doing so.
