As best I can tell, after the initial death threat, Rifqa agreed to go to islamic classes to calm this down and secure her safety. Just recently, while her dad was away, her mom found some new christian materials, indicating that she was not only unimpressed with their reeducation efforts, but still apostate. At that point, her mother threatened to send her back to Sri Lanka – which, to a young, female christian apostate – is tantamount to a death sentence. She ran a day or two later, before her dad could get back to learn about her continued apostasy. You say her parents are “still human” – well sure they are, but Rifqa is entitled to judge the threat for herself and take whatever measures she feels are necessary to make herself safe. She is NOT required to live everyday in fear – even to spare the feelings of her parents.
